Totally agree. Might as well see what's he's made of now. There's plenty of film on Sanchez, but the preseason is the time to test the young guys.
More important than stats, he needs to look the part of a starting NFL QB. He needs to get the team in and out of the huddle, make quick, smart decisions and move the ball down field. If he can do all of that and lead the team to points while NOT having stupid turn overs he's starting week 1. He didn't look like that week 1.
God, I hope Geno plays terrific, just so damm good even Rex had to admit it. I cant take another game seeing Sanchez QB my team.
Yeah agreed here. I think he needs to show 3 major things- 1) Command of offense and huddle 2) Ability to have the offense as a whole move the ball down field 3) No turnovers If he can do that, then the coaches will have a tough decision.
Great test against the Giants. It's the best preseason team we will face and if Geno lights it up he may get the nod week 1. The QB position has yet to be decided. JPP won't be in the lineup as he's still recovering. Regardless this isn't official yet.
it's a preseason game for his job and his first nfl start. feeling some pressure is totally understandable
I feel like even if he is flawless, it won't be enough for them to name him starter. If he plays average, or worse, Mark will be named starter Sunday. If Geno plays like we hope, then we'll have to wait until after week 4 to find out.
Rex, knows what he's doing...Ginos hasn't proven anything up till now, so the real test will be against the Giants #1 D I can't wait to see Gino get eaten up by the Giant defense and put this Gino Smith Euphoria all to rest. For anyone to think Gino as any shot to start game 1 or game 2 for that matter...just watch and see how he does in this game.
I don't agree with this. The Jets will want to name a starter after this week, if for nothing else to create some sense of continuity going into the regular season. To answer the question, I believe if Geno can go something along the lines of 12-16, 160 yds, 1-2 TD's and 0 INT's then he could make a very strong push for the QB job, maybe even win the thing.
I know they want to make a decision sooner than later, but why would they go with Geno after 1 pre-season game? He hardly played in Detroit, didn't play in the first home game, so this is it. They can go with Mark, and eventually to Geno, but not the other way around. So I have a hard time seeing them say yep we're going with Geno after this one game.
It's already very clear that Rex is not the sole decider of who starts at QB. Idzik said he would have a major role in the decision (which could be a polite way of saying it'll be mainly his choice with input from the coaches), Sanchez has said that he is seeing people from the front office at every practice buzzing around taking notes on everything (indicating that Idzik is not just blindly trusting what the coaches tell him about player evaluations), and Rex himself said that it will be a group decision where he'll have sort of a tiebreaker role. If it looks like Smith can't play at the NFL level yet, they will go with Sanchez and as soon as Smith shows enough improvement, they will start Smith when Sanchez has a bad game. If Smith seems ready or just slightly worse than Sanchez, they're going to go with Smith to start the season, as long as Smith is healthy.
This post is such a giant mess. I'll leave most of that alone, but please explain this. If Rex knows what he's doing, why is he starting "Ginos" in the most important preseason game if he has no shot to start week 1?
