Maybe we do, we just don't know it yet.

    1 - True

2 - Also true, but think maybe have been told to minimise contact until later in pre-season. Some of those missed tackles were inexcusable though.

3 - Over aggressive is what I thought at the time watching that. In other seasons we've given too much cushion on 3rd n longs = same result.

Cromartie, our star player in the secondary, cant even tackle either.

Besides our front 7, our defense looks lousy.

Let's take it easy and not over react too much to 1 half of 1 pre-season game where the defense only gave up 13 points....

They were CLEARLY caught off guard by the hurry up (Dawan even mentioned this). Let's just be thankful they made us aware of our inability to not handle the hurry up before the Patriots did it in Week 2.

That said I WOULD like to see the open field tackling improve.

While I admit it wasn't good, it is the preseason. Starters with solidified positions aren't out there to kill themselves, and coaches do in fact speak with the opposing teams prior to preseason games to talk about things they want to work on.

Yeah that was evident when the 2s and 3s came on.

Not too worried about our defense. They made the stop when they needed to. One touchdown and two field goals.

Also, our 2nd and 3rd string D played a lot better than our first team...leads me to think that we deliberately weren't going all out in preseason...

Also...didn't our first team D shut down Stafford to like 3 points in 1st quarter?

I'm guessing the Bucs will now be using week 1.

I agree that's its possible that guys weren't going all out. But the poor tackling was alarming.

Re: 3rd down. I don't mind blitzing. But stacking the line every 3rd down 5-7 seconds before the snap gives the QB all day to adjust. I'm just suggesting we disguise blitzes. Rex rarely seems to do this.

They have to put 4 Defensive lineman DOWN, get penetration and pressure on the QB,, everything on Defense works off of that.

Sucks we wasted all that money on Holmes.

Sucks #24 couldn't budge from that mountain of $16mil; where the next best corner in the league makes around $8mil

Sucks we have Santonio Holmes; did I say that already?

First year without Revis so it will be interesting to see how and what schemes Rex employs.
I agree about the tackling and hope that its just down to pre-season and not being important.

Its funny, I have a feeling that the AFCE is going to be wide open this year and if we can get our shit together might even be nicely surprised ourselves.
Point I'm getting to is that maybe Rex and Dennis know exactly what they want to do, but we won't see it until the Bucs game.

I don't know about the division being wide open with Mr. Brady, he of the 90% completion percentage in the pre-season, looking like a surgeon.

I wish Rex hadn't over-hyped revis so much. If anything, Rex and his mouth are to blame for revis playing in Tampa.

Devito will be missed because he never took a down off and he was stout in the middle. Good teams keep players like devito but we suck so makes perfect sense.....

Offense looks better than defense against worst off team in league. Maybe rex should let someone else call d?

Pats seem to be really putting team through hard preseason practices against multiple teams. Evidently the jets are to good to practice this hard.....

Get yourselves a good weed dealer, it's going to be a very long season!

I think Rex isn't disguising them in the preseason because he wants the disguises to be effective in the regular season. If he uses the creative/unusual blitzes in the pre-season, it will give opponents extra tape to analyze.

Given how successful the no-huddle offense worked against the Jets's 1s, I would expect other teams beyond just NE to attempt that as well. Hopefully Rex will come up with some strategy in response.

If our front 7 don't get any penetration at LOS, we could be in big trouble.
Milliner looks very much out of sorts and has now been called out by Rex and Cro (which is a tad rich of him considering his missed tackles...).

Wilson looks a lot better but still is giving up way too much yardage, I'd like to see him play the ball a bit more.
Lankster could be the surprise that our secondary needs though.
