These I believe are the guys we have in camp, i am going to try and post a poll for who you think will make the team. the purpose is more a how are they doing and what do you like and dislike about the guys you know something about. royce adams was listed as a DB so he was not included in the poll. 41 Crocker, Eric CB 6-2 195 26 1 Arkansas-Monticello 31 Cromartie, Antonio CB 6-2 210 29 8 Florida State 43 Edwards, Mike CB 5-10 186 22 R Hawaii 34 Fletcher, Donnie CB 6-1 195 23 2 Boston College 21 Lankster, Ellis CB 5-9 190 27 4 West Virginia 27 Milliner, Dee CB 6-0 201 21 R Alabama 35 Trufant, Isaiah CB 5-8 170 30 3 Eastern Washington 30 Walls, Darrin CB 6-0 190 25 3 Notre Dame 20 Wilson, Kyle CB 5-10 190 26 4 Boise State 38 Adams, Royce DB 6-0 190 25 2 Purdue
Ellis Lankster has stepped up his game this camp. Got beat by Hill on that last play bomb in the Green & White scrimmage but that was also due in part by a slick little 'nudge' by a bigger/taller Stephen Hill. Overall, he's been laying the wood on people.
The only secondary players on roster that should make team is: Cromartie, Milliner, Kyle Wilson & Ellis Lankster. The rest of secondary players on roster are terrible.
Antonio Cromartie. Dee Milliner. Kyle Wilson. Are the top three CB's in which are guaranteed roster spots. Ellis Lankster. Isaiah Trufant. I'd say would be our two CB's expected to round out our position (5 CB's). I really like what I've seen out of Lankster, kid stood out last offseason as a player then followed up his impressive offseason with 39 tackles, 2 INT's, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. Also having a nice came thus far. At the age of only 26 I believe we've found our dime back moving forward. In regards to Trufant, he has the experience within Ryan's system which is why I believe this kid makes the final roster. Heading into his 4th season as a Jet but yet, 30 years of age. So his potential isn't as high as some but I believe as a 4th year player within Ryan's system he'll make a decent 5th CB...
Rex Ryan used Lowery as a slot/safety hybrid in 2009. That made it easy to rotate into different sets. I think Wilson will be used in the same fashion. Float the nickel into the backfield and turn the SS into an ILB, and you have two deep. That's the basic concept, but there are far more options.
Don't tell his brother. Lowery sucked until we went hybrid. Now he is a serviceable safety. Wilson won't be one. But I think he can be productive. Rex made Eric Smith and James Ihedigbo productive in his defense in 2009. They were both dootstops before Rex showed up. Give Wilson a chance to win some trade value.
As Cro went out against the Lions Darrin Walls took the outside-corner spot in front of Lankster. So I guess Walls is also a lock to make the roster.. and that's what he should be because this guy could develop into a good player.
Trufant isn't a bad player at all. I truly believe if he wasn't so small he could be a starter in this league. He can play the slot on this D though. Kyle Wilson is such a disappointment. He stays with his man but has horrendous ball skills. Milliner is going to have some growing pains as any rookie will. That's what makes this scary because Wilson isn't a no.2 corner in this league. He just isn't. I just hope that all you people who didn't want to pay Revis won't be the first ones to bitch about the DBs this fall. The Jets are going to be like the rest of the league now and get torched from time to time by WRs. I'd keep Cromartie, Wilson, Trufant, Walls, and Lankster. Possibly one more Corner/special teamer either from our roster or someone else's last day cuts..
I still don't know why Wilson gets so much praise, it seems like he is getting burned on every play. He is constantly crowing after the QB misses his wide open receiver. I'd rather have Lankster or Tru as our slot/nickle.
