That won't stop him. The mans a freak even when injured. That is the great thing about Milliner, he is a tough SOB.
I don't think people realize it took a solid week and a half of training camp and a scrimmage for a 5th year QB to definitively have a better day than a rookie. I mean hey, great for Mark, better than getting outplayed by a rookie day in and day out, but lets take it for what it is: a backhanded accomplishment.
This is and was the time for the qb's esp. Geno to make mistakes. Make all the mistakes in camp, and learn from them before facing real opponents. The picks don't matter, yet how he (Geno) acts and reacts is more important right now. Especially having a reputation of being sensitive to criticism, and a diva. This should help Geno grow.
I've seen one Sanchez fail too many, but if Michael Vick can turn his entire career around, Nacho sure can. [I still don't know why I am pulling for this kid - I know he WILL fail, but a part of me is STILL pulling for him. I would love to see him become what Jets first envisioned him to be when Rex and T-bomb drafted him back in 2009.]
What's funny is prevailing wisdom is that Geno s making more plays downfield. But that';s not what I saw at the scrimmage or conducive to what's been reported. Geno is the more poised "take what the defense gives you" type.He doesn't make a ton of throws down field..but isn't gonna put the ball in harm's way very often & has impeccable pocket awareness. Mark has been much more of a gun slinger. When he's gotten a clean pocket he's delivered the ball w/ a lot of velocity downfield. Problem is when he's been under pressure. His footwork gets sloppy & forces the ball into some poor windows. I didn't think the Ol performed badly..but this DL is extremely athletic on the interior & is almost impossible to keep out of the QB's face. Sanchez flat out can't play w/o a clean windshield in front of him. Therefore we won't know enough until we see what he does against other teams. The Jets interior rush really throws a wrench into this competition.
Mark gets picked on so much that Rex has to continuously defend this guy. Rex might be the only guy left in Sanchez's corner at this juncture ...
At 3:15, he showed pretty damn good pocket presence... Escaping Mingo like that.
He really impressed me overall. Really smooth in his drops/moving out of the pocket, good touch on his throws, calm & decisive. He does hold the ball slightly too long but he's also facing a very good pass defense which is often designed to cause hesitation. Also wish he had more confidence to throw deep but that should come w/ time as he grows confidence (And the Jets add more playmakers)
Well I remember not too long ago being excited abt out new qb, so i know how some of the Geno lovers feel, but plz stop acting like Sanchez didnt have good moments for us. Sanchez has all the potential but lacked the consistency, and talent around him
4 year veteran with an established history of not taking care of the ball vs a rookie who still hasn't thrown a pick in 11 on 11's. One's going to get more slack than the other for the same reason Sanchez got slack his first three seasons.
Marks had a couple of good games yes, but in all honesty the Jets have won mostly in spite of him rather than because of him. If you take his best stats from each season and combine them you ALMOST have a good QB. almost. The problem is for every good stat he's ever had in a season he's had 3 other seasons where that stat sucked. and he's never put them in the same year, which for a QB usually means they're statistical anomalies rather than trends. With A QB when they improve it's usually pretty much across the board in all categories, but with Mark it's always been one stat this year, another stat the next year with the previous years good stat regressing back to it's baseline. That's a strong indicator of statistical noise which is to be expected in any QB which has plateaued. Every QB that's ever been drafted in the top half of a draft, and even many drafted later in the draft, have a good set of tools, tools are the easy part to find. The problem is that it goes beyond just the physical tools to really succeed at QB. Geno's tool set is better than Sanchez's ever was. That does not mean, however, that Geno will turn out to be a better QB than Sanchez, only time will tell that story. There is a long list of players with better physical talents that Sanchez who have also had mediocre or short lived careers because they couldn't adapt to the NFL speed and difficulty change. In the NFL receivers rarely have the separation they frequently have in college, and when they do have the separation it's usually short lived, especially on short or crossing routes. What is more important at the NFL level is the ability to properly read the field, see the mismatches and know the play BEFORE the snap and be smart and fast enough on your feet to change plans quickly and decisively. It's something Mark has never adapted to. When everything works exactly as designed Mark does okay, the problem in the NFL is that things very seldom work exactly as designed, if they did the Tom Brady's of the world would never get a chance to start because he doesn't have the best physical tools, but he's smart, adapts well as plays develop and is accurate and decisive with quick reads and accurate throws. If physical tools were the key Guys like J. Russell and Ryan Lief would be in the Hall of fame.
This is an excellent post on the subject. I've watched just about everything there is on Geno at this point and I still don't have a very good feel on whether or not he's going to make the adjustments needed to transform himself from a very gifted college athlete into a great pro. That's because he's either going to adjust to the faster pace and heavier pressure in the NFL or he isn't and we won't know if he can do that until we see him play a lot. Everything I've seen of him on the field, good and bad, suggests the potential is there and so I'm optimistic but I want to see a progression from him that suggests he's picking things up on the fly and perfecting his craft as he does. I'd really like to see him play against Belichik in game 2 and game 7 because those two games will tell us a lot about his progression and his ability to adapt to the NFL faster than the NFL adapts to him.
What? Is he only allowed to say good things about Geno? He's been complimenting both of them since the start of camp. It just shows that this will be a great battle. I don't want Geno on the field unless he beats Sanchez out. It shouldn't just be handed to him.
