I'm sick of this. You should be, too. Reporters that base their articles on anonymous sources, any of their articles... That is cowardice in their profession. Journalism, at it's root, is a profession that relies on sources for credibility. There are now, mostly thanks to NYDN, two prominent Jets beat writers that rely heavily on invisible men to base their shit articles on. Why is anyone re-posting this crap on TGG? BleacherReport has been blackballed here in the past even though it's basically a fan blog similar to this site. Anonymous sources require no proof, no spine, and absolutely no accountability... and still these hacks get more credibility for their opinions than sincere fans. They could be quotes from anyone. This is blatant manipulation for profit. From men that already make more money than they deserve for their subpar work. I move that any article that contains an anonymous source from any publication be deleted from this forum.
No, everyone loves anonymous quotes, as long as they play into the Sanchez sux theme. That Mike Freeman article, got everyone hard. In Ciminis article, he also busts balls when Sanchez says he can run the read option, having to reference the butt fumble. I guess he missed the part where one of Sanchez attributes was mobility.
I voted to keep it, we should be able to see it and than make fun of the writer like usual. I don't like change
This would be impossible to maintain and I doubt Petro would support it. In a perfect world it would be great but I just don't think it's feasible.
If you want to see articles that slander team players without a source to corroborate, I guess I can understand. I just think it's kind of self-defeating to love to make fun of the writer when he is actually getting more hits and money for his lack of effort in threads posted on Internet forums like this. Make fun of him all you want. He's getting paid more for your effort making fun of him. You're continuing a discussion about that shit article. They like the hate. The only way to discourage that behavior is to refuse the payoff.
Agreed. Also, once Mehta is gone I feel like there will be a lot fewer of these articles to deal with for some reason.
^^^ Agree. They don't give the reader the time of day source-wise, they don't deserve the time of day. Put up or shut up. Abyzmul, I assume those 'two prominent writers' you were referring to were Manish and Cimini?
Was it so impossible to police the BleacherReport articles? Anonymous sourced articles are pretty obvious.
Mixed reaction to this one. I voted "no" because I do only want to see honestly sourced articles. Howevvaaaa, I can see why others would want to see any/all articles related to the Jets. Perhaps, as a compromise, we can amend Royal Tee's thread naming policy to reflect unnamed sources (UNNAMED SOURCE: Geno Smith draws Jamarcus Russell comparisons). Also, make it mandatory that the entire article gets posted with no hyperlink to the original source, only a reference. That way everyone gets to see all Jets news, we can mock the author/call them a hack, and we don't support the original author by eliminating page views. Just a thought!
That's what people thought when Mehta replaced Cimini. Mehta was pretty idealistic at first. It's not the writer. It's the assholes training them.
It's football, not classified national security intelligence. Put a name on it or find something better to write about. The more we support (aid and abet?) bad journalism, the more bad journalism we'll get.
I'm with Sloup. This is football news, not Watergate. If there is no named source I don't even consider it, even if it aligns with my thoughts or biases.
I don't remember ever doing that with br articles but there's a huge difference. NYDN gets circulated though social media, blogs and quoted by other major news outlets. BR articles generally aren't nearly as visible. We'd be dealing with repeatedly deleting the same article and angry posters who want to talk about the fake quotes.
