nfl network reported acl/mcl tear in philly for wr . raises the following question: do player's bodies get enough rest/time to heal? are teams going overboard with all the otas, mini camps, vol camps, etc.? seems like a lot of players getting severe injuries lately: revis ( on a field, with no contact), peterson, rg3, troy p, ed reed, santonio, etc.
The players have it easier today (since the new cba) than they have had it in a long time. Personally I think it's because they're in too good shape. Yup, not enough body fat.
we have holmes with foot injury , even has not healed from last year. now, the eagles have macklin out with acl/mcl, in training camp with hardly any contact. do you really think it's from too good conditioning?
as the muscles get stronger and stronger the tendons, bones and ligaments do not. more stress leads to more injuries. its a bit akin to sprint runners, they are at such a fine point to be absolutely the best that they tend to pull hamstrings. its a very fine line. i think the continued building of muscle adds to the more often injuries, especially those to the tendons. the ligaments to a lesser extent.
I think the NFL needs a developmental league. Take Guards for example; there simply aren't 64 NFL-caliber starters who are healthy for 16 games a year. Health is a major issue and I think a D-league would provide great depth, much more than the practice squad.
^^^ This is why the one thing Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees could agree on when they were all interviewed together a couple of seasons ago was that somebody was going to get killed on the football field before too long. Steroids, HGH and improved training regimens is a deadly cocktail.
Only problem is that the shelf life for NFL players is less than the MLB or NBA (or really the injury risk isnt as great)
Dan Koppen, another player who was expected to play a huge role for a contending team seems to be done for year with a torn ACL per PFT
What the hell is going on? Aaron Berry, Maclin, Pitta, and now Koppen. Is summer of 2013 the year of injuries?
It could just be random. It could also be the cresting wave of a new injury phenomenon in the NFL based on the last half decade's supplements whatever they were.
Possibly the looming agreement on HGH testing has a lot of users getting off that stuff ... and their bodies aren't handling it well?
