Yes, you don't want your most valuable asset on offense getting hit any more often than he has too. Cam Newton is big and he's maybe an exception to the rule. RGIII and Russell Wilson will need to stop running as much as they do or they will have short brilliant careers that flame out due to the injury factor.

Even big guys can't take the hits for long. Daunte Culpepper was the same size that Newton is and eventually the odds caught up to him.

John Elway gives us a good look at where the limits likely are if you want to run the football some and have a long career also. He averaged 3 to 4 carries a game over his career and managed to stay mostly healthy.

I'm with this too. Ultimately if things go tits up, it keeps the media off Rex's back and helps offer him a lifeline.

I'm ok with Idzek taking control as well, so far Rex hasn't been the best judge of QBs and the whole locker room loyalty thing gets in the way. Idzek can help making those difficult decisions.

Russell Wilson does do a good job of sliding to avoid big hits. If Geno can learn this or already has that instinct I wouldn't necessarily mind it. He shouldn't be a running qb though.

Idzik is not saying he's undermine Rex but that everyone will have input and that's fair

Rex has a bias towards Mark but if everyone else feels Geno is the guy and Rex just goes with Sanchez that says a lot about his mentality

Idzik gave Rex input in the draft process less than Tanny did but still input

This is a team both on the field, on the sidelines and in the front office

Rex is on a short leash and rightfully so. Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for Rex to keep his job. At the same time, IMO this is the best way

    Screw Sanchez...

Give the rock to Geno and let the chips fall where they may.

Guys freaking out that Idzik having a say needs to calm down. Idzik know more about offense then Rex. He grew up around the offensive side of the ball. Hia dad was our offensive coordinator.

Rex has proven to be a disaster as a head coach of the offense, so this sounds like a good thing to me. His judgement has been terrible in many areas related to the offense. His strength is defense. At this point, he is really just a glorified defensive coordinator.

Exactly. If you have to have your QB running, you dont have a QB.

Its not much different from the old saying, if you have 2 QBs, you dont have one.

I think Idzik gave Rex just as much say in the draft as Tanne.

I think he let Rex pick the first round and then he took over.

Well, Rex has claimed he does not know offense, so why would you want him picking the QB? I say let Lee and MM get together with Idzik and make the call. It is an important decision. We do not want another Rex gut call.

He actually claimed that? Was it in a press conference?

I'm not doubting you, just interested in hearing him say it. That would be kind of damning to me.

Rex had a lot more say in picks than he would have now

Sanchez, Wilson, Wilkerson, Coples, Davis, Ellis and Conner all were connected to Rex

The only pick this year I even slightly recall Rex being connected to was Winters

RGIII couldn't even complete a full season. Vick, game is over if he can't run. All these running Qbs are going to miss games with injuries and ultimately have shorter careers. Just like running backs, and well, I guess every position in the NFL. The average career length for NFL player is 6 years according to Goodell.

Qb's should play football like Mayweather fights and their careers might last a little longer, don't get hit. Ever.

Are you basing this on something concrete or just talking out of your ass?

    Speculation/observation

During the Tanny era, the post draft press conferences you seem Rex really talking up certain players(Coples, Wilk, Kyle, Davis,Conner, Ellis and Sanchez) then not really giving a ton of input in other guys selections (Ducasse, Hill, McKnight and Kerley)

This past year he was vocal after day 1 but then going forward he didn't seem to attached to the Geno selection or any other after that except the Winters pick

I think Idzik is really taking more of a group effort rather than what Tanny did which was basically the him and Rex show in my eyes

Imagine Tanny really going to everyone and getting equal input from the entire staff

That's what Seattle does and Idzik is bringing that over here
