Another one for this thread: Kyle Van Noy OLB, BYU. I saw a to of him while watching Ansah last year. He makes a ton of plays behind the line. Very good speed but not up to the size Rex likes in his LB's. at 6-3 235 would need to add 15 pounds of muscle, but love him as a player.
agreed. I'm a huge fan, as you can tell from my avi. his tape in the Poinsettia Bowl had me salivating. he was in on every play. very underrated also, had13 sacks last year.
Dont know if I'm buying his stock yet but I certainly think Kevin Hogan is a guy to look out for next year
I would not mind if the Jets were really bad but if they are I hope that Geno looks good and that the Jets can pick up Clowney. Then sign Jimmy Graham and Victor Cruz (I know Idzik would not do it). Cut Sanchez/Holmes/Harris. Sign depth guys the rest of the way and draft BPA and have a very good team. Pipe dream I know.
I dont think we have a shot at any of those players, let alone all three. Id be happy if we somehow managed one of them...
I don't want any of these guys. Clowney would mean either that the Jets had collapsed in 2013 or that Clowney's value had collapsed in 2013. Either case is bad for us. The young FA's to be are a different story. The way you get ahead in the NFL is to develop your own young guys into players you want to retain. You don't get ahead taking other team's young stars. You break even at best in that situation. That's why the Free Agency Winner every year is an also-ran. Need good young players cheap that then buy into your systems and team. Its hard to find those guys but that's why there are only a few teams in the upper echelon on a consistent basis. Now and then a super star breaks the rules, like Drew Brees on the Saints, but those cases are few and far between.
Round 1) Marqise Lee WR USC Round 2) Colt Lyerla TE Oregon Round 3) Isaiah Johnson S Georgia Tech Round 3) Spencer Long G Nebraska Round 4) Max Bullough ILB Michigan St. Thats all I've got................for now.
Oh jeez........changes already; Round 1) Marqise Lee WR USC Round 2) Ed Reynolds S Stanford Round 3) Shayne Skov LB Stanford Round 3) Arthur Lynch TE Georgia Round 4) Spencer Long G Nebraska Much better. That's REALLY all I've got................for now.
unfortunately i think the jets draft even higher next year, 6 or 7 spot maybe, so they should be in a swell position to add to the OL, QB, and WR positions. with the 2 defensive picks in round 1 this year, me thinks the offensive skill positions get the nod next draft on day 1. of course if smith turns out to be russell wilson or kapernick, take QB off the list.
The Jets draft position is going to depend a lot on how things split in terms of W-L records next year. I don't see them winning fewer than 5 or 6 games and that usually puts a team about where the Jets drafted last year. If we get one of those rare seasons where a bunch of teams cluster between 4 and 6 wins then they might get a better pick out of that.
Max Bullough LB MSU. Great size (6'3 242) instinct & closing ability. He's one of the spartans emotional leaders & he looks to have some versatility. He'd make a good compliment to Denario Davis. He's slightly stiff & will run in the 4.8 range, so I could see him as a solid 3rd round pick.
I did some youtube analysis on some of the top rated WR prospects heading into this season. It's hard to fully evaluate receivers w/o being able to see the full routes down field, understanding their specific route tree or having a full understanding of the offensive system they play in. That said..I tried to get a grasp of what style players they are & how they might fit in Morningweg's offense. If anyone has seen any of these prospects more closely than I have...opinions are welcome. 1.Jordan Matthews, Vandy- Big,smooth & fast. Runs all different kinds of routes & is effective on gadget plays like Bubble screens & end-arounds. Doesn't have alot of help around him yet consistently produces as the focal point of Vandy's offense against top SEC competition. Looks like a 1st round pick to me 2.Cody Hoffman, BYU- More of a basketball player type. Tremendous wingspan, body control & physicality. Focal point of BYU offense. Runs all the intermediate routes the Jets need help at. Good not great after the catch..didn't see elite deep threat ability. 3.Josh Huff, Oregon- Slasher type with great ability to come back to the football as well as ability to stretch the field.Effective on gadget plays. If safeties don't get good depth he's gone on deep routes. Needs to improve YAC in traffic..not thrilled w/ his size (5'11 205) 4. Ryan Grant,Tulane- Tough one to evaluate as he only has highlight reels & plays in a pass heavy spread system. He does demonstrate tremendous body control & has elite ability after the catch. He's extremely elusive & hard to square up on. Level of competition could be an issue. 5.Jalen Saunders,Oklahoma- Smallish slot receiver w/ some quickness in the open field. Runs a good cross pattern. Better punt returner than receiver at this stage.
I honestly think the Jets will be picking around the middle in 2014. That said, I have my eyes on WRs early, ---- proj 1st rounders Marquise Lee (USC), Brandon Coleman (Rutgers) and Sammy Watkins (Clemson).
I think we almost have to go offense in the first next year, so I'd say we go after one of the WRs. Either Watkins or Lee would be fine with me as a pick. We need to replace Holmes soon, and having Watkins/Lee-Hill-Kerley gives us a young core to work with.
Brandon Coleman is a monster, seriously as monster. Isn't a Tavon Austin with the ball but still a beast
I concentrated mainly on the seniors to be. Lee's stock goes without saying...he could be a top 5 pick. Both Watkins & Coleman project as day 1 picks for sure. This is shaping up to be the best class passing game wise in a long, long time. I took a look at some of the tight ends both Juniors & Seniors. One guy who really stands out to me is Austin Seferian-Jenkins from Washington U. He's a huge target who is very athletic down the seam & is a good blocker.
First thing that stands out to me about Brandon Coleman is how long both his legs & arms are. He's got a massive wingspan which makes him a big time down field target. He's exceptionally smooth in his route running & stretches the field w/ ease. What he needs to improve on is using that big body to his advantage more often. He seems to still be learning how to be physical & how to attack the football out of the air. He and Cody Hoffman are similar types for comparison. Coleman seems to be more dynamic & explosive but Hoffman has superior toughness & catching ability.
A lot of people know/have heard of Anthony Barr OLB from UCLA and the aforementioned Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU. Someone else in you'll hear about later in the 2013 season = Demarcus Lawrence OLB Boise St. Kid is a stud.

He's got some 2 gap ability & I like his instincts. That said I don't see the same athleticism in him as both Barr & Van Noy have. Barr is gonna be a handful in the pros. Someone w/ his size should not be able to bend & explode like that. Van Noy has great quickness & closing ability. Wouldn't be susprised if he has a much better NFL career than fellow Cougar Ziggy Ansah
