It appears you are blaming Mark and only Mark here. Just like OBrien before him this coaching staff and FO need to pull their weight and they failed to do so. Oh we can add Chad to that list. How many QBs need to fail until we see the big picture? It's a revolving door this guy is a bust that guy is a bust. It's the same damn story for over 20 years man. Meanwhile teams like the Packers and Colts KNOW how to develop a QB. We have failed time and time again. I'm fucking sick of not having a long term plan.
Sanchez was doomed the moment we kept Schotty as an OC and didn't get an experienced OC to teach an inexperienced QB. There was never a plan in place and if there was it was a POS plan. 2011 and 2012 pass... Jets now have a physically and mentally fragile Mark Sanchez. You don't come back from being mentally broken. Rarely does that happen in the NFL.
The fact that the starters were on the field doesn't mean they were giving 100% in a meaninless game. You have spent enough time talking about "garbage time stats" that you should recognize the difference between a team playing for something and a team playing because they are required to. Peyton and Curtis Painter each had six drives. So half of the game the Jets' defense was facing one of the worst QBs in league history, as a rookie. Yeah, sounds real tough. The 2010 Jets never would have won 15 games in any season, no matter what the schedule looked like. Play that season over one hundred times and they would be lucky to match their 9 wins even a handful of times.
Yeah... still doesnt change the fact that Sanchez is a poor QB, until he proves otherwise. Yes, the organization did not manage him correctly from the start, and it truly sucks for him (and us), but he still has been a bottom tier QB for the majority of his career. He has regressed in many aspects, and he has a long way to go to being even average. At this point, I see him as a marred canvas. I cant really envision him having a better turn around than Alex Smith even under optimal circumstances. I guess this makes me a "hater" though, right??
Smith's record over his career: 2005: 2-5 2006: 7-9 2007: 2-5 2008: 0-0 2009: 5-5 2010: 3-7 2011: 13-3 2012: 6-2-1 So it took Smith five years (four if you don't count 2008) to go .500, and seven (6) to lead a team to a winning record. If the Jets don't get to back to back AFC championship games with Sanchez exclusively at the helm, chances are the conversation about Sanchez isn't even being had right now and he's already out. The circumstances are not comparable.
Judging a QB's performance by the win loss record of the team is always a foolish endeavor when trying to evaluate a QB's true performance. There have a been a number of mediocre QB's in the NFL's history that have "led" teams to winning records, but in those cases it's always been due to either a career year that was far above the QB's norm (rare) or most commonly having a very very good team around him to hide the QB's faults. ON the other hand there have been some VERY good Qb's who often had mediocre records in terms of w/l because even though they were throwing 4,000 yards, not turning the ball over, etc their defenses were allowing even more points than the offense was scoring. In football, more than any other sport, W/L is a team stat. Granted a Franchise QB can take bad teams to the playoffs (see Luck last year) and a bad QB can drag down a very good team with turnovers and short possessions.
Junc there are ALWAYS a few teams that drive up the SOS and a few teams that drag down the SOS, that' is ALWAYS the case. Again, .568 in 2008 vs .500 in 2009. It is the aggregate, any attempt to say that 2008 was a much softer schedule, as you claimed earlier in the thread, is just ridiculous. You continue to cherry pick a game here or a team there that tries to make your point by side stepping the bigger picture. You a politician who hopes no one is actually paying attention to the details. Junc, I've forgotten more about football than you'll ever know about the game.
The most important thing you said in that entire post is that W/L is a team stat. That's true. It's a team stat in a team sport. A sport where a TEAM wins Super Bowls, yet everyone is focused on a Quarterback who is unpopular for some legitimate reasons, and for some very cosmopolitan reasons. Look at the bigger picture.
Yes W/L is a TEAM result, but we are talking about QB not the team. But this is a QB discussion thread, not a team thread. I pointed out that W/L record is a horrible way to evaluate a QB, that does not however say a QB shouldn't be evaluated. Fact remains, after 4 seasons Sanchez has been a bottom 1/3 QB in each and every measurable in each and every season with an occasional spike in one stat or another in odd years that make him look average if one only looks at the one stat isolated from everything else.
Sanchez had a top oline, top running game and solid playmakers like Keller, Cothcery and later on Edwards. Plus he had a top defense. So I'm trying to figure out how they did Sanchez wrong as a rook?
not sure how you can compare pennington to sanchez. pennington actually had some success, and injuries were the main reason for dips in play and consistency. sanchez has been a horrible, bottom 5 QB since day 1.
Its one thing to regress.... its another thing to be a bottom 5 QB, leads he NFL in turnovers yet STILL regress. its not like he was a top 5 player and his play took a dip when stud players around him left. he was already awful, and got even worse, which was near impossible to do yet he somehow found a way. twice.
Sanchez is neither physically or mentally fragile. Sanchez has missed what is it 1 game? Due to injury. And the psychbabble bullshit, is bullshit.
Stud players? You are joking right? The evidence is as clear as day, that coaching was the issue. Schotty fucked up Pennington, and the offense. Favre comes in, tells schotty to STFU, best finish under Schotty. 2011, Moore comes in to fix the RZ offense. Jets finish 2nd in RZ, 25 overall. Yeah, its the QB. Here's a quarter..buy a clue.
