But this isn't Fan deception. This was a fluff piece soon after the move was made. Did you expect them to come out & say that the guy stinks & will never get the ball? As for the "20 times or 50 times" from Rex, he used the quote several times during last year's TC. Normally he'd say " 1 time or 20 times".Very open ended,no? To me that was all about keeping people guessing about what was to come. If the opposition thought Tebow was gonna get 20 carries a game..that's great. they'll spend valuable time preparing for it.As a fan, you never take quotes like this seriously during the off season. And hell, maybe they DID expect to do all of the things mentioned above.Maybe it just didn't pan out. If you really believed every word they said regarding this..you were bound to be disappointed & feel slighted.Deception is a strong word.
Namath was wrong in 2010, right in 2011 and right in 2012. If the team does well he'll be back to wrong status. I just don't like the way he bashes Rex Ryan and scrutinizes him so harshly. I don't think the team sees a 2009 or 2010 AFC game without him.
The thing is, they never even tried. It was Rex who hyped it up. It was Rex who had the closed door, super double secret confidential practice to unleash Tebow's special plays. And it was Rex who told him to bulk up to prepare for all the hits he was going to take running the ball. And despite having the worst quarterback in the NFL, he never let Tebow sniff the rock. Even at the very end, when mcElroy got his brain scrambled, he still went back to the worst QB in the league and left Tebow on the bench. Lest, he look like a fool if tebow made something happened. Rex proved to be a total fraud. I was AGAINST the Tebow signing but the way Rex personally handled it was inexcusable. He was completely deceptive and a fraud til the very end.
Hold on Barcs, I heard Namath addressing those assclowns on the NFL Channel's "NFL AM" this morning and besides giving his take on who'll start at QB (he said Sanchez), he made it a point to cite Rex Ryan's overall winning record and he emphasized it a 2nd time for good measure (and seemed to be directing it at the media and with a gentle jab at the "NFL AM" panel interviewing him) by saying in effect: "Rex Ryan has won more games than he lost....some people seem to forget that: REX RYAN has WON more games than he's lost." After listening to his overall supportive take on the Jets team, I came away somewhat amped with Namath's "green-blooded" interview, especially the Rex Ryan part. He had Rex's back in this one.
More like the "moonshiners".......... While you don't have to agree with everything B'way Joe says, he does speak his mind and often offers an astute analysis on Jet operations. Notwithstanding his correct take on Te-blow, Rex's insistence on ground-pound/fail & his reasonable commentary on the lack of team harmony(specifically on the off. side) 2 seasons ago, Namath remains consistent. His opines deserved to be heard as he IS the FACE of the ENTIRE JET COLLECTIVE! He may go on a tangent & state something that induces a "WTF" in a Jet fan but more often than not, his take is equivalent to any knowledegable Jet fan here but with an added edge of being the ONLY JET QB/PLAYER who GUARANTEED & WON A SUPERBOWL for the NY JETS! Until ANOTHER JET/JET TEAM replicates THAT FEET...Screw that...homeboy's got MY full attention!!
If you were not watching football in the 60's, it's hard to fully understand what Joe Willie is to the Jets. He revolutionized pro football, from technique to attitude. Everybody at the time had bought into the holier-than-thou approach; you had to march in lockstep quoting Vince Lombardi. Joe was a nonconformist who didn't buy that crap and backed it up as he led the Jets to the top with no knees. If anyone has earned the right to speak his mind on the Jets, it's Joe Willie. And of course he's right. And he still wants the Jets to win, as badly as he did in 1968.
Joe Namath was a great QB in his early prime. If you watch the film of him playing you see a guy dictating to the defense by making throws where you're not supposed to be able to throw the ball successfully. Even late in his career gimpy as hell he could burn a good defense by putting the ball where he wanted it to go not taking what they gave him. In 1972 the Fins gave up 10 TD passes all year. Joe Willie had two of them as the Jets almost upset the Fins in Miami.
Well that's certainly an about face of some of the things Joe's said about Rex in the past. And like the poster you were responding to that's really the only time I had a problem with Joe speaking out - vis-a-vis some of his prior Rex criticisms.
Part of me wishes Tom Seaver would come out and bash the Wilpons like crazy too, but that's not going to happen, and everyone knows the Wilpons stink anyway. It's a shame Joe and the Jets have no relationship now. Like with most spats, there's blame to go around on all sides though certainly more on the Jets' end.
I'd much rather listen to Namath talk about the Jets than Greenberg or Beningo, who get up on their radio soapboxes every day and spew ignorant typical SOJ fan BS. Namath speaks his mind and offers his own extremely knowledgeable opinions. He doesn't just spit back what the mainstream media is saying like Greenberg or the pessimistic SOJ fan crap like Beningo. And he doesn't sound like the idiots all around me at Jets games who think the game begins and ends with the starting QB.
I hear what you're saying. I'm only saying that if this was this first time you ever hear Namath commenting on Rex, you'd have thought he was in Rex's corner. I heard a repeat of that interview and after the "Rex Ryan has won more games than he's lost" comment, Namath followed that up with something like: "what if the Jets end up 8-8 next year and show improvement...." then went on to say he thought they were capable of it and that if any players thought otherwise that they (those players) ought to "move on" elsewhere. Again, Namath said he thought that the Jets could turn it around and that if they do, that the FO should think about Rex staying as HC.
Namath has always been strongly opinionated about being solid upfront. In that regard he was right about the prior administration. Tannenbaum simply did not respect O-line depth & was always trying to get cute by saving roster spots & mixing/matching UDFAs. That said. namath had to have been thrilled w/ this past draft. Once you got past the first few rounds of BPA..It was all about getting deeper at O-line.Should most of those picks work out they will be the building blocks of a new era of Jet football
Tks for jogging my memory & yes he our 3rd but was not home grown & to IMHO was just a OK back & because we have so little population in the HOF they may have given him some what of a pass. IMHO Snell & Boozer (before injury) were way, way better then him & if he is in they to should be in also
