It's a tough one for me, between 98 and '10. I loved that 98 team and swear by if we won in Denver (damn that gust of wind) we would have another super bowl ring. In 2010, I believed we were destined to win in Pitt and go to the super bowl. Both were heart crushing. That being said, I voted 2010. Only because I was older and appreciated the team and the game better.
It depends. if you count Sanchez then the 1998 team was much better. But without Sanchez the 2009 and 2010 was much better in every other area than 1998.
98. That coaching staff wins btb with the 2009 -2010 team.... A rare fumble by Martin, and a gust of wind...cost us in 1998. 1999 we lost to age.
Lol That jerk off is the ultimate equalizer.....how he threw 3 big-time TDs in New England is beyond me in retrospect. Its close between 98 and 2010....but I'll say 98. Running backs:98 Wideouts: 98 OLine: 2010 DLine: 2010 but its close LBers: 98 DBs: 2010 Special Teams is close but I'll say 2010 QB is the difference maker.....and I'll take 98 Vinny over 2010 Sanchez no question. As much as I love Rex and Westhoff you have to take the Tuna, BB, Weis and co for coaching staff. Sent from my LG-P999
The '98 team was head and shoulders better than those two other teams. Vinny arguably might have been the 2nd best QB in football that year after Elway of course. Curtis Martin was, well, Curtis Martin. Their o-line was the class of the league. The defensive line was DEFINITELY better (although with Coples and Sheldon now its looking to be on the rise). The only thing 2009/10 had that was better really is the secondary with Revis and Cro. Aaron Glenn was very solid but was in no way, shape or form anything close to Revis. Give me Vinny and the Jets!
Think about those 3 TDs. All 3 TDS required amazing plays by the receiver. The TD to Tomlinson was a 3-4 yard pass thown with to much velocity thrown above Tomlinsons head. With most RBs the ball would have been tipped if they even were able to get their hands up in time. Absent Tomlinsons great play it is likely the ball would have been intercepted. The TD to Edwards was a 4 yard slant where Edwards made an amazing play after the catch running over 2 DBs on the way to the end zone. A phenomenal play by Edwards. The pass to Holmes was overthrown but the catch was a catch from the ages. Just an amazing catch by Holmes not to mention getting two feet in bounds. Sanchez had as much to do with those TDs as he does when a running scores on a ball he hands off.
Overall roster, it really is tough. Probably 1998. I went with 2010 though, as they defeated Peyton Manning and Tom Brady on the road. Very impressive. And speaking of QB's, look who the Jets lost to in those 3 games: John Elway, Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. QB is CRUCIAL!
it can never be 2009.....we were given a gift in Indianapolis when they sat Peyton...... i'd go 1998, 1982, 2011, and 2009....
It's really between 2010 and 1998, I don't think anyone is going to put the 2009 team up there. I like the WR group for 2010 and having Revis is a huge plus. I also don't remember the 1998 season all that well, so there's that.
Definitely 98. that was a true Super Bowl caliber team, and the opponent would have been a joke with Atlanta. It still amazes me we didn't leave that year with a ring. freak turnovers at the worst times, by guys who never turn it over.. btw, why 83 gets no love?
The 1982 team was better than the 98, 09, and 10 teams. The only thing that stopped them from winning the game was the field conditions. That team was more complete than the other three. I even think the Jets were favored to win the game agains Miami. The 98, 09 and 10 teams were all pretty big underdogs in those games.
'98 definitely. We went up against a juggernaut in Denver and should have beaten them in their house. The Jets were one of the best teams in the NFL for the entire season. The same can't be said for either 2009 or 2010 team.
1998 by a landslide. The 2009 and 2010 teams were capped on offense. That alone makes the 98 team the winner.
Vinny was 12-1 as the starter in 98 [really 11-2 the helmet TD] even at 11-5 we still would have been the two seed, that team was blowing teams out. The 09 team had the #1 defense in the NFL. The 2010 team was solid all around.
