no, the Jets aren't paying him anyways. they have already paid him his guaranteed money, but he still has a base salary as part of his contract that he only gets if he is on the team. if he is cut, they don't owe him that base salary, which is $9 mil, $12 mil and $10 mil from 2014-2016. why would the Jets want to assume any of that, nevertheless most of the tab, as you suggest, when they can be free of it, just for a draft pick?
ah, so they aren't on the tab at all next year if he's cut NEXT year? I don't remember where I saw this but i thought he was owed 4mill or so if he was cut? In which case I agree... somewhat with you, if both #6 & #7 are great out there, you cut the more costly one (#6) and get more money to support #7. If you can get another pick out of that, bonus. Why pay that much just to have two great QB's when you can support one? If he's tradable and another option is at about that quality or more for less, its an easy choice.
Arguably the Colts and Redskins, because they found their franchise QBs... all it takes for a quick turn around is a franchise QB and some good coaching. I say "all it takes" like its easy... Being Jets fans, we all know it isnt easy finding a franchise QB. But if you can, you have a fast track to competing.
My 2013 dream scenario is where we turn out the way those two did. It could happen if the offense improves enough to be effective and the defense becomes a sack haven with pretty good passing D. A lot of Ifs within those ifs, but hey this is the NFL, turnarounds are prone to occur pretty rapidly.
Nice try but, the 2008 Jets were 9-7 just as the 2009 Jets. Before we go to the AFCCG argument again, please remember the Jets caught a huge break when Indy "rested" its starters. Identical records don't represent a quantum leap. A more accurate depiction would be the improvement from 2007 to 2009. A 3 year window.
Even with the Franchise Qb, you still need a quality roster supporting. Quality rosters aren't built overnight but take time to develop. Ask the Redskins how all those stupid contracts worked out for them.
Weren't the Panthers 5-11 the year before they went to the SB (and lost to the PATS) granted it was 10 years ago? FTR, I don't think the JETS will be one of those teams
that $4 million next year is his cap hit, not money he is owed. the last money we owe him is this season, $8.25 million. if we keep him half a season, paying half of that, and then, hypothetically, agree t o assume half of the remaining amount even after a trade, we save that trade partner $2 million this year, but they are still assuming a contract with $31 million remaining in base salary. the Jets aren't going to agree to assume any of that, and Sanchez is not going to play well enough for any team to agree to take on that salary amount and the Jets want to trade him. like I said, if Sanchez plays well enough that he is worth $30 million over three years, the Jets should keep him and not trade him. so the suggestion that he can play well enough to create trade value, but not well enough to be worth keeping, just doesn't make sense.
The Dolphins had a 1 year turnaround from 1-15 to 11-5. Granted Matt Cassell was starting for NE and Miami faltered the year after, but quick turnarounds happen without drafting a QB #1 or #2 like WAS and IND just did I don't think we turn it around in one year, but I think we could be an annoying fringe WC team if we get lucky avoiding major injuries
wow you are completely delusional...he's had his chance...Geno is going to start...Sanchez will be cut as soon as this year...there is no other scenario barring injury.
What chance has he had? A guy thats had exactly one losing season in his first four years with no help whatsoever? And...Sanchez is under center opening day.
Sanchez will start barring a major collapse in training camp. If that happens a Vet will be brought in. Geno will not start this year. Sanchez cuts down his turnovers the Jets win nine games minimum.
Look at the Schedule. Jets should take 3 of four to start, and have a wild card for the NE game...as NE has the same O and D, and no way to prep for the new O on a short week in week one... Can you imagine the meltdown, if that happens..... Lets prime the pump. Week one..," well Freeman is shit" Game two.."the pats hadnt seen the offense, short week" Week three"Buffalo has a shit secondary, and a rookie QB" Week 4.. "locker didnt play well" Finish every one of those off, with...Sanchez still sucks, Geno needs to start after the bye.
Prior to Hill, name one high draft pick spent on the offensive skill positions after Sanchez was drafted ? Or...maybe you could list the guys that played number one WR for mark, from 2009, thru 2012. Hm..maybe you could focus on last year, and list the wr corps on opening day, and the wr corps at the end of the season... Continuity counts. A blue chip RB counts. A cast of mid to late draftees, and veteran retreads, some of whom get tossed for odd ball reasons (braylon) leads to no offense. And lets face it its not just me..read the last 50 pages..even the haters that want Geno in, charitably admit, hes been fucked bynthe organization from the start.
