Because nobody can predict the future. However, we have a REAL OC in house now. Instead of the Frankenstein system that Schotty had and the last OL coach running the offense with his Earhardt-Perkens/Single Wing system, Wig knows what the fuck he is doing when it comes to the WCO. We just need to add another piece or two from a weapons perspective to make it work. Another WR and a decent vet TE and Wig can do a lot. He might even teach Nacho how to be a real QB.
Let the dilemma begin. I'm rooting for every damn last Jet to do well this year. In particular, I'll be supporting Sanchez, Garrard and Geno to be super successful in pre-season so the darksiders can revel in their negative ways and search for escuses to create a QB controversy, go gaga over the media support of the controversy .. and create the longest running poster in TGG history on this subject to validate it. There, got it off my chest. All I want is for the Jets to win. I dont care who comes up on top. I hope the decision will be very hard to make bacause they all do extremely well.
uh right, cuz sd was so brilliant in releasing brees in favor of rivers...that has worked out great...for the Saints that is.
? Both turned out to be great QB's (although Rivers has been a slight decline these past two seasons).
Question(s): Obviously Sanchez was not blessed with the proper OFF. personnel last season along with the addition of 1 of the worst "cue-bee's" in NFL history(whose name I REFUSE to mention here EVER @ GG) s'posedly screwing-up his psyche & confidence. Realizing that MOST of Marx "fails" this past season were due to his OWN incompetence (repeating those same "fails" he produced in '10-'11) & NOW having to compete for starting/back-up or even 3rd string, do you think Mark will will have a "BREAK-OUT" year? With the earlier p/u of "Geriatric-Garrard" & the drafting of "Ge-Now-Da-Future", will Mark RISE or FALL to the biggest challenge of his qb life? I don't know.....I JUST don't know!
The pheonetic spelling is hard to keep up with. And you should have used Gee-Know, not Ge-Now. Garrard is a more accomplished veteran than Sanchez but his health will prevent him from sustaining any semblance of what he once was. I would like to see him be the 2nd QB on the roster as a mentor to both Sanchez & Geno. If Geno is the QB of the future, then he should sit. Let him get the reps with the PS, and ride the pine a couple of years, a la Aaron Rodgers/Pennington. This all hinges on Mark having a break out year. If by the end of the 1st quarter of the season, if the '11 & '12 Mark are rearing its head, then its time to bench Sanchez and either see if Garrard can handle being a starter or Put Geno in. I would prefer Geno solidify himself as the #2 QB by then end of this year and Mark having a breakout year. For the health of the franchise, this is the winning combination. it will set us up at QB for 10 years. Obviously no guarantees but you never know how mark will respond now that he has a true OC and having real competition behind him. If he responds well and can give us a decent play for a few years, then Geno takes over in 3 or 4 years and we are good.
Even if Sanchez has an great year there probably will be little interest on the trade market based on his history. If he follows up a great year this year with another next year the Jets dont trade him.
It's probably too late for that no matter what he does short of giving back his current contract. Once the Jets drafted a QB in the high second round the writing was on the wall for Sanchez. Of course if Smith gets hurt in camp that would change but short of that Sanchez is gone and it's just a matter of when.
It may be more hoping than thinking. Aren't we all hoping that somehow, some way, some QB will pull us out of this abyss?
Every team wants a "franchise quarterback." Sanchez, is most likely a dead duck, but miracles happen and if by some stroke of luck the kid finds rhythm; it would be foolish to let go of him. Especially, with Geno 100% untested in the NFL. Geno, will hopefully bring real competition to Sanchez at training camp.
