IMO, our best producing lineup @ WR is:

    1-Hill (Not Deserving)
    2-Holmes (Best suited for)
    3-Kerley (Best Suited for)

We have to use them according to their strengths.

He won't be the weak link if he plays like he did last year.

Running game should be improved. Still need WR and TE badly.

The point was for you to provide clarification on what you meant by top. This you did in a round about way by naming 4 player you think are better. That's 1/8 of the league. So in order to be a top player at a position he must be in the top four. Although you said you could name 10 better you failed to do so. Forgive me for being skeptical that you could actually name 10 better.

Ok, now that your valuation is more clearly defined only 3 of the 4 players are better than Kerley based on factual, verifiable data. Only 3 have played in the league and have a body of work to compare. You are speculating with Austin and although I think he will be the better player neither you or I have proof to support this opinion. If your proof is what each did in college then by that reasoning we should have projected Chang from Hawaii to be a better QB than Manning based on their college careers.

The point is that your speculation isn't supported by much more than more speculation. You have no idea how either player will develop or progress. Do you think Cruz struck fear in anyone's heart when he first can in the league. I doubt you knew who he was before the preseason game where he torched our 3rd string, which was still a full year before he played any real time. Were you scared by Welker when he was in Miami? You have no idea if Austin will be the better player in 2 years. Arguments and opinions are stronger when you have facts to back them up.

You're just spouting nonsense now so this will be my last post on the point of what the definition of 'is' is with regards to Jeremy Kerley. Even if what you say is true and I couldn't name a single slot WR between those guys and Kerley it still wouldn't make you anything close to right since there would be an enormous gap between his skill/production and the guys above him.

Back to the real world for a minute though, and I only put up a few names because I don't feel like sifting through receiver stats for the past few years to filter out exactly how many people have been outproducing Kerley from primarily the slot. It would take quite a while because his stats last year are closer by far to almost every slot WR in the league than the actual elite guys; sounds like a really fun project. But yeah Kerley is definitely better than everyone else that has ever lived at the slot other than those names. Definitely way way way better than Steve Smith. Megatron lined up in the slot quite often the last couple of years....guess Jeremy is better than him too. Never mind that several of the worse teams in the league don't even have a real slot receiver...they either field some guy who sucks and is short or whichever bum happens to be the 3rd best WR on the team when they need an extra target.

Apparently the highest drafted slot WR to ever come out of college isn't worth shit until he makes a few pro bowls but somehow we can extrapolate to Kerley's promising 2nd year to prove conclusively that he is the greatest slot receiver in the league for the next 30 years.

Try making your own Kerley thread to go fellate the guy some more if you absolutely need to. He's very very good but hasn't produced anywhere near elite yet. If he keeps improving drastically he might get there some day, but I happen to have my doubts about his ability to do that. Unacceptable opinion I know.

Steve Smith and Megatron are now your go to slot receiver because they spent some time in the slot. I see your someone who likes to state opinions regardless of facts. As much as poor thinking irks me I'll leave you to it. You are correct Kerley is not Megatron especially since Megatron is not a slot receiver. But hey if you need to use him as an example to support your opinion cool.

Right because 5'9" Steve Smith isn't really a slot receiver because occasionally he destroys people on the outside too. This is the whole reason that the discussion is ridiculous to begin with which is why I added Megatron into the conversation although obviously you don't understand the point.

Anyway thanks for agreeing to stop talking about it too. I really consider not hearing your thoughts more in depth to be an elite blessing.

I don't expect to see much out of this offense until Dec 8th against the Raiders at the earliest. The first part of the schedule is brutal and MM would have only had a few months to install and tweak his WCO to the offensive talent on this roster. Hell, until we find out who's taking snaps, its almost impossible to say what our offense will look like. It may look like a newly installed WCO or MM might have to use a variant if the talent doesn't fit the system. It will be a while before we really know anything for sure about this offense. I just hope they don't go thru the bullshit like last season with the "secret practices" and other deception tactics trying to confuse our opponents. With our 1st half schedule, that tactic would be a complete waste of time and effort.

No, you cant. garrard hasnt played a down in2 years, and McElroy starting nets you Teddy Bridgewater.

And worst case scenario...garrard gets to say 6-2, then gets hurt, and your most viable option at QB is getting 8 million dollars of your money, but signed on with another team.

You flush a playoff season down the toilet, to avoid 4 million in dead money next year?

    Not likely.

I think the problem is that we wouldn't get Bridgewater even if McElroy started. For a few years now this team has been ridiculously talented at a few key positions but were always held back by being hopelessly pathetic at others. Now we traded Revis and his salary for a couple of probable impact rookies on defense and finally got rid of the biggest jokes i.e. Hunter, Scott and now we have some blank slates like Davis stepping into those roles. The team is too good to go 2-14 or 3-13 but it's too flawed to win the Super Bowl even if Geno Smith starts and has a rookie season to rival some of the recent star QB's like Kaep, RGIII, Wilson.

We're probably a middling team that is a marginal wildcard contender if everything goes right but this year gives the offense a chance to establish an identity and let some young guys step up and competently fill some needed positions moving forward. I'd like to see some people like Hill and the OL's show some life and establish the Jets as being 1 year away from being contenders again especially if Geno Smith can be developed into a franchise quarterback. The more I watch of him the more potential I see but he has a lot to learn to be sure. Guess it will just be exciting to see what he can do with the offense and the new system when he runs it.
