http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/4/30/4286540/braylon-edwards-jets-return-door-open The New York Jets could bring back Braylon Edwards for another run with the team. New York Jets general manager John Idzik has said he will consider bringing back wide receiver Braylon Edwards for another year according to Manish Metta of the New York Daily News. "Guys like that will be under consideration as we go forward," Idzik said.
I'm a big Braylon fan but when you know it's basically a throw away year we need to get younger players some reps, I say don't do it.
I fail to see how that means they could bring him back. Idzik's response was about as generic and non-descript as it gets. HAHA "guys like that will be under consideration"
i've listened to every john idzik press conference and knowing how he talks, this means absolutely nothing. dude won't give anything out to the media
They still need experience at WR. Holmes is too brittle. 3 of the 5 WRs will be young. I consider that plenty of youth.
Those of us who are in favor of Braylon coming back who heard today's conference call with Idzik and Rex (I heard it) were probably encouraged. He did't say yes, he didn't say no (because he can't) but you at leasts felt it was a strong possibility.
I'd rather the Jets play some young guy like Jordan White than re-sign Edwards. Edwards at this stage is a #4 at best while not being able to contribute anything on special teams.White at least has some upside & could give you 5-10 tackles and/or good blocking on special teams.
Yeah, reading Idzik is going to be really tough to do particularly after he gets his feet on the ground in this market. That doesn't mean that he's not going to say things now and then that lead us all in a certain direction but we'll be headed that way because of what we read into his comments, not because of what is actually there. And yeah, that's a very good thing. Information is power and giving people power is bad for your competitive posture unless they are working for you or in your interests.
I think we should definitely bring him back. It's not like we drafted anyone to take his spot from last year and he provides a familiar face to Sanchez(if he wins the job) and some solid downfield blocking for if Geno Smith is our qb and we decide to run a pistol like offense
i love how idzik lays low and literally gives up 0 information. he won't speculate on anything, even stuff that has happened in the past. it bothers me though how people on espn still expect him to stay stuff though. like on the michael kay show he was on for an interview and once it was over they ripped him for not giving up any information. like jeez, what do you expect him to say?
I see it the opposite way. It won't help any of our QBs if Hill has the same problems he had last year. The WR position should be no different then the rest of the team... the best players play. If thats Edwards, that only benefits the player that wins the starting QB job.
Theres a hidden caveat to that though. The best players WITH A FUTURE, play. I see absolutely no reason to bring Braylon back.
Braylon has no more of a future with this team than Santonio Holmes does, if the Jets were to re-sign him. Its not fair to Hill or to the starting QB to expect him to be ready to go right now. The kid needs come along at his own pace. When he's ready to shine, he'll be in there. The Jets shouldn't force the issue.
This is how i feel. id rather younger guys play a bigger role and get more reps. even if we were a fringe playoff team, its not like edwards is a game changer that would tip the scales
I say wait at least until week 1, then when Hill drops 3 passes that game, sign Edwards. On a serious note, if Sanchez is the starter, don't sign Edwards, but if Geno is the starter sign Edwards.
