Let's see it! The draft is over! In my eyes, we had one hell of a draft! Solid picks that help this team tremendously! Solidify the secondary, create an unstoppable DL, create great competition on the OL, create a young and versatile backfield, and draft a young QB who could very well be our franchise guy. As of this moment, how do you see us doing in the 2013 season?
We have a strong o-line and a strong d-line, so the season will be better than expected. Not that they were areas of weakness, but GREAT o-lines and d-lines make a difference.
i voted 8-8 i think this team can make a splash, and wouldnt be too surprised to see them in the playoffs, but i think we can expect an 8 win season. the defense will be just fine come september and the i have faith in mornhinweg making something work so with a serviceable offense and great defense the team will have a chance in every game they play. it should be fun to watch the jets this season
Agree completely! Going into this draft, this team was not very scary looking. Coming out, we look very good. It all is dependant on the prospects in camp, but if all things fall into place, we can have something going. Solid run game with Goodson and Ivory, serviceable pass game if Garrard starts with very little turnovers, and a top 5 defense. I think we can surprise a lot of people!
Majority on here knows this is going to be a long ride. The question is about this season. I don't think it will be as long as people think though. Look at San Fran. They went from a horrific season in 2010 to one championship game loss and a superbowl loss. I think this draft helped us tremendously! With the amount of cap room and draft picks we will most likely have next offseason, I can see this team right back on track in 2014.
we wont know for 3 years how much this draft really helped. we still have a ton of issues that have not been addressed and we have to realize that not every guy we drafted will be a starter or even a regular performer. shoot there are still a ton of questions about the very few guys from last years draft who even played. coples looks like he can become good, he sure wasnt anything to write home about last year. and demario davis as much as people WANT him to be good could barely find the field last year. i say 6-10 at this point.
I agree completely. I voted 8-8, it could be less wins, could be more. It all depends on how the season starts. I think that this season is about setting the foundation. I believe that we are on the right track with building both lines, you have to start from the front to the back. I've read that if Holmes and Sanchz are cut next offseason, the Jets will have around $50 mill open up for free agent signings. I think that Harris also becomes a cut possibility if he doesn't step it up, opening more money. Obviously it opens a few holes, but with another solid draft and $50 million to spend, this team can turn it around really quickly. I also don't see Idzik as the guy who's going to spend the big money on the hottest free agent out there. I think that he'll make a bunch of good signings without overspending too much, and filling the holes. I'm really excited about this team going forward.
I understand that, but I am just looking to see what everyone now thinks about next season. I can see Milliner and Richardson starting this season. I also can see Winters being a starter on the OL. Ivory will be the number one back also. If Coples explodes this year with Wilkerson, our defense can be deadly. I am excited to see the youth
I feel that the 2012 6-10 season was an aberration. When your top receiver and CB go down for most of the season with injuries and the TE on and off with nagging injuries + a QB that pretty much imploded + benching Sanchez for McElroy and having him get sacked 11 times against SD, is it any wonder they were able to win 6 games? There has to be an improvement - they got younger/faster and healthier - well for now anyway. The key is if Sanchez can rebound and drastically reduce the number of turnovers and fit well with the new offense that Marty will implement. I think they can go 9-7 easily. If the ball is handed to Smith, I think we're in for a long season - I think he's a project that needs to be given the kid glove treatment - if you throw him in too early, and he makes some bad mistakes, it could ruin his confidence like what happened in 2 college games previously.
Agree on all points except Sanchez. I think we need to start Garrard and cut Sanchez. Release the entire mess including Sanchez and Tebow. Start a new page. Throw in Garrard and let Geno watch. Garrard would be a great mentor for Geno. He has experience, has had success, is mobile, and throws with great accuracy and little to no turnovers.
I say 6-10 but 8-8 wouldn't surprise me either. At least we wont look dreadful this season and there is some promise for the future on the roster.
This is what I've been thinking for a while now. If we went 6-10 without our best defensive player, no run D, without our 2 best offensive players in Holmes and Keller, and pretty much no QB, then how is it possible to be any worse? Schedule comes into the equation but still, they can't be a worse team than last years. On top of all the injuries you add in an extremely raw WR and its hard to figure out how we won 6 games. At the end of the day, I think Rex puts out another good defense, and Marty gets the offense rolling.
I really like Garrard on the team even if its just to be a mentor. He seems like a guy who would like to help out the young guys.
I think the first part of the season, with that schedule, will be brutal for the Jets. They're in rebuilding mode and it will certainly show. The biggest question about this team still hasn't been answered yet. That is, who's taking snaps. The other question is, how quickly can MM get his offense installed. I can see a turnaround in the second half of the season as we play lower tier opponents for the most part except for the Ravens and the Fish whom we play twice in Dec. The first game will be pretty emotional and the Jets could win that game. Revis in a different uniform and all that drama. Perhaps a Buffalo win at home but that's about it until Dec 1st. So, 2013 should play out the way a lot of us think it will. 6-10 most likely depending on how fast MM can get his system installed. No matter what homers would like to think, you still have to outscore the other team to win a football game and when it comes to the Jets, that's always the biggest question mark.
I will say 5-11 but it really depends on Geno, our OL, and especially Stephen Hill. If these guys play better than expected we could be dangerous. On the other hand. if we give injured guys like Millner time to heal (think 100% before we let them play) and ease Geno into the starting lineup the first few games could be brutal.
As an optimistic Jets fan, I wanted to press 11-5 for the lols. Honestly, I'm not even going to vote in the poll, because it's going to be a very very interesting season. I think the Jets will be competitive in every game, but I can't predict how many of those they will actually finish. Edit: For the record, I don't want Geno to start this year. I want Garrard or Sanchez to handle starting, and let Geno sit on the bench for a year and learn the system. Once he gets a handle on it, then we can play him. I don't want him starting Day 1 ala Sanchez.
Starting with QB's... I'd like to see Sanchez snap out of his two year funk and become the franchise QB we've been expecting. However, I don't have high hopes of that. Garrard has been out of the game for a while, I hope he can come in and play well or well enough to get us through a few games until Geno gets up to speed. Geno, it depends on what the kid brings, he could be very good, he could be average. After that last couple of years, I'll take average. Unless he shows something magical in camp or preseason, I say sit him for a while. Although he doesn't have a great mentor ahead of him so sitting may not be the best for his development. I think both lines have improved and added depth. Despite losing Revis, I don't think our defense will suffer much. We still need a safety and a legit pass rusher. Offense hasn't seen much movement, swapping equal pieces IMO. Getting Holmes back should help, but he has become less than reliable. Hill needs to break out or sit out. For some reason, I really like this Zach Rogers kid. I hope he makes the team. All told, we're pretty much where we were for the last couple of years, not knowing what we have until the season starts. Best case, 10-6, worst case 6-10.
It's tough to say. We have a relatively easy schedule so we could easily win more than 8 games. And while the Dolphins upgraded a lot of positions, they still have Tannehill as QB so that keeps them down.
I'm not going to vote in the poll however I will say that the Jets are definitely not going 4-12 or worse. The downside for them this year is likely going to be a rookie QB installing a new offense and despite that I very much doubt that the offense is going to be disastrous the way last year's offense was. If you told me that David Garrard was going to be a healthy starter all season I'd have no trouble ringing up the 8-8 bell. With Geno Smith things get a bit more variable but not on the very low end. It's going to take a bad run of injuries to make the Jets a bad team next year.
