I wouldn't exactly call DeMario a cornerstone player just yet.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of those guys listed in green are cornerstone players.

Man, I really like our DL though. I would definitely like to see more four man fronts because I think we have four guys with a really unique combination of size and athleticism.

Teams can have 90 for training camp right?

Davis, Ellis, Hill, Kerley, and Harris are not cornerstone players. As a group they have either proven nothing or proven that they are an average NFL player.

A cornerstone is something you build around, it is the key to the foundation. A guy like Wilkerson is a cornerstone. A guy like Kerley is a good player, but one you can replace. A guy like Harris needs to step up his game or risks being off the team sooner rather than later.

You list is a little too simplified for me. I would divide out cornerstone, starter, rotational, depth, and JAGs.

The fact that we passed on all the TEs makes me wonder about Hayden Smith's development. He made the active roster towards the end of the year, and he even caught a pass. Perhaps they like how he is progressing?

Cumberland is a JAG in my opinion. He can't block, and his hands are iffy.

    I agree with Harpua ^

You need to add another color and call it "established starter" for those guys mentioned. Truthfully the only Cornorstone players that should be listed are Wilkerson, Mangold, Ferguson. Just for sake of how he's stepped his game up I'd throw Cro in there too.

That's just my 2¢. Even though I really like some of the other players they could be replaced.

I've been wondering about him for awhile. If this kid can put his football IQ thinking cap on we might have the next big star.
Physically he's perfect, and we already know what kind of athlete he is.

I hope this is the case, they didn't draft anyone, and the FAs available are really thin. Only names that look interesting:

    Boss
    Rosario
    Beckum

    Then your old timers:

    Winslow
    Clark
    Cooley

If Idzik is about competition at every position, they had better begin bringing some bodies in.

That's what I'm hoping too. I don't think Cumberland is a #1 TE. I like him, but he shouldn't be that type of player.

Plus obviously it's impossible to truly list rookies as cornerstones because of the bust potential...but I would say that both Milliner and Richardson are the types of guys you would build a team around if they pan out something near their draft value. Guess my point is that it doesn't sit right to have them listed the same color as Joe McKnight who probably doesn't deserve to be in grey himself rather than black.

The roster is really just in a state of flux this year. Hill and the 3 top rookies could establish themselves as cornerstones or busts or anything in between which will drastically alter our needs last year. However if they all work out we will have enough built up to fill the remaining holes and make our strongest team yet.

That is where this type of slotted evaluation gets tough. I see Brick, Mangold, and Wilkerson as our corner stone type players. Cro has the skill. But he seems less reliable in his personal life and those things matter.

Guys like Coples, Milliner, Richardson, Smith and yes even Sanchez have the potential to be those type of players. I hoping for a Sanchez turn around type year so we may have a potential trade value QB, be it him or Smith, down the line. That would be in the best interest of the Jets.

Then there are guys like Davis, Hill, And Bush. The all have potential to be very valuable players for us, but have proven very little so far.

Before the draft I was almost dreading this upcoming season, but now I'm very excited to see this young defense at work. Rex and company could really have just built something special along the front.

If you put all our QBs, RBs and TEs in a pile, you would have one huge pile of shit. Our WRs if healthy could be good, but we did nothing to help them out.

Compared to last year, we've improved at every position except TE and S. I don't know why everyone thinks this year is going to be so bad other than schedule strength.

Yeah I don't think we will be that awful (sadly) but I'm looking at 6 wins, but the roster doesn't look that bad, your right we added a lot of depth on the O and D lines and our secondary looks solid if we can get someone to step up at FS

I like to hope Davis will pan out because he has all of the athletic attributes that we need at that position. He's probably a little undersized to be a pro bowler or a top sack guy but he's extremely quick to the point of attack against the run, shows good potential in coverage, and can get after the quarterback on occasion. With a guy like that holding down the fort our front seven could become absolutely amazing long term if and when he starts working with a truly explosive pass rushing OLB. Still, he just hasn't shown enough yet professionally to rely on him becoming that guy yet. If he stays on the field and shows progress and competence in those areas this year we could have a very good player in him however.

Hill I view a little differently. He definitely has everything needed to be a pro bowler if he learns to catch. If he doesn't learn to catch he'll be a bust or average pick at best probably. Maybe he's 65/35 to develop the hands he needs or close to it in my view.

Bush looked promising for the pick he was but it's pretty hard to compare his ceiling to Hill or Davis based on what he has shown so far. If he could develop into a nice rotational safety that would be great and if he's a marginal starting FS that would be amazing.

If our top 2013 draft picks and Hill/Davis pan out more or less I think we'll be looking at our top picks going to S/OLB/TE/WR next year if BPA doesn't clearly lead us somewhere else. We'll also finally have the cap space to bring in a high profile free agent or two finally if it seems we have the QB to enter a 'win-now' managerial mentality again. I also think there is an outside chance we could be competitive this year if Geno takes over and hits the ground running and we spend most of our remaining cap space on 2 decent vets between TE/OLB/S in free agency.
