I'm beginning to notice an interesting possibility here...especially at the QB position. Maybe we saw a spot of it with Revis as well. Does anyone remember the way the fans and league were up in arms a couple years ago with the way Seattle was conducting business? A player would be signed and damn near a week later on the street? No one was above the team or was a sacred cow. If I remember right they went through some 20 odd guys or more in one off season and even on into the season. Like they were trying to find the right mix. I smell this coming for the New York Football Jets. They have 6 QB's on the roster. Who says they can't keep FIVE of them? Simms is a practice squad guy for sure. Garrard, Sanchez & Smith compete for the top job, backup and 3rd guy. CONVINCE Tebow he is NOT an NFL caliber QB and convert his butt to full time H-back/TE or, as reported, outright cut him and then McElroy moves on. There are all kinds of scenarios out there. My guess is they cut Tebow because if he hasn't gotten it that he is not an NFL QB then he never will. Tebow/McElroy are the odd men out... But, I see a lot of this "Seattle type" maneuvering coming down the pipe...and soon. Get used to the ride and hope it pans out like it did out West.
Nobody knows what's going to happen. But I think the the QBs will be Garrard, Sanchez and Smith. McElroy could be traded and Tebow gets either cut or as you said HB/TE. Morningweg will have to convince everyone on what is the best plan. If the Jets so happen to trade Sanchez, then Garrard, Smith and McElroy...But a lot can happen between now and opening day. Looking forward to how Idzik plays this out. I want to see some mad skills.
Mad skills does not include Jedi Mind Tricks that got the #1 rated CB in the draft to fall to 9 a week after trading Revis and despite being a top 5 player also, and then getting the #1 rated QB in the draft to fall to 39? That sounds pretty mad skillzish to me.
Nobody is going to trade for McElroy or Tebow..ultimately they will be cut unless Sanchez is and then one of them will stay.
Sounded like Mark is going to be released. Marty M. said difficult to have competition with more than three, and you have to make a decision quick. Sanchez released as soon as today, certainly before Open Thursday or whatever it is Tebow still likely released but not until after OTAs to see if we can get something for him Not shocked if they sign another UDFA QB Geno Smith will be day 1 starter. Geno confirmed Jets were on the phone with his agent at 13.
Isn't it obvious that Sanchez is done? He's our STARTER and the GM would not commit to him being in camp!! Name one other team in the league where a GM would say that? Samchez has finally buttfumbled his way out of town. Good riddance.
Why are we trying to emulate a team that hasn't even been as succesful recently overall as us? Bc they beat an overrated Redskins team with a gimpy RG3? Idzik was a contract guy. He booked the hotels. He didn't build that team, and sorry if I don't want to emulate them. They got lucky with a QB, let's not act like this is the Steelers.
Usually, I think you are a douche, but I agree with you on this. We don't need to emulate the Johnny Come Lately sweetheart team of the NFL, especially since they haven't done a whole hell of a lot to justify it. The good news, if you want to call it that, is that Idzik showed up to town solo. He didn't fire the FO, just replaced Tanny. Not sure if is good news because our own FO personnel are far from the envy of the league, but I also am not sold that I want a bunch of Seattle guys coming in and throwing half the team away due to a change in overall philosophy. The Jets are a confused and muddled mess, but if they want to emulate the culture of a team, I think it would be smart to do so with one that has a history of greater success than the one it is replacing.
seattle is a great model to follow, even though i can understand the idea that they've only recently been successful. i mean before pete carroll came, they were kinda bad. he came in with the mentality that no one's job is given, but it must be earned. they also showed that you build through the draft overall i think it's what we all want and a lot of teams do it, it's just kinda correlated with the seahawks for some reason
Lol at people who don't believe the Seahawks are a good team to emulate from. They built their team through the draft and found a QB that was skilled and got developed properly.
goldenshowers and northernjet I agree goldenflowers and northernjet can go blow it out their asses i've seen nothing but negative comments from both of them. Quit crying into your power ranger bed sheets and go root for another team!!
Are you serious bro? That team is freaking stacked! How you going to say they got lucky? They draft players who turn out to be monsters without anyone else seeing it. Sherman, Browner, Chanceller. That's 3 guys in like 3 years who are all beasts. I'm not saying that Idzik is going to draft like them, but to say that you wouldn't like to be like them is insane!
Browner wasn't their pick, he wasn't anyone's technically (undrafted, picked up by the Broncos, then injured and spent several years in the CFL). I also liked Chancellor in college but his senior year was atrocious and exposed him as someone that couldn't cover and would only fit in specific systems that cater to his strengths, so he slid in the draft. Sherman was a project because he hadn't played a whole lot on the defensive side of the ball compared to other prospects, but plenty of teams saw the potential...supposedly he didn't help maintain their interest by taking off a play at the end of a half during the Senior Bowl, though.
