Maybe we pick up a FA? We freed up more cap space so they probably wanted to see how the draft played out and will go to FA to fill in the gaps.
been hearing this for years.. in 09 jenkins holds up 3 blockers and let everyone fly...still no rush from the outside in 2010...our corners (cro + revis + wilson) will be able to hold the wrs and well get pressure... nope etc etc it would be easy to just add speed to the outside...not every team has a defense like rex and teams still have pressure with just normal pass rushers....we have to scheme a fake one...just my opinion...im just aggravating
It seems the Jets neglect this pick every year. Still, Sheldon Richardson has the potential to do some big things in this system. That guy is fleet-footed. Weird hybrid of JPP and Wilkfork at best. I'd definitely like to see them take an OLB and a MLB in next year's draft though.
Word should have grabbed the linebacker with stenosis, thats what this franchise needs with its first round pick, an undersized linebacker whose career could end at any moment. Steelers picked him cause they like his upside and it wouldn't devastate their team if he went down.
this is PRECISELY why i was so thoroughly down on the milliner and richardson picks and us not taking jones at the 13.
1. There was no good ones when Jets were picking. 2. Look for next year's draft. Jets didn't fill all the holes, but they did fix a lot of problem on the roster. It just happened that the OLB spot wasn't filled this draft simply because Jets could get better value filling other holes. 3. Reaching for a need is always a bad idea anyway.
That's precisely because Jenkins didn't even play in much of 2009 season. (He went down with torn ACL on 18th of OCTOBER)
didn't we have like the best d in the league that year? Sheesh. You really just can't please some people.
How do we know that Jones was on the Jets board at all? For a rebuilding team the medical concern may have been too much to bear. Looking at the Jets picks and who they have signed as UDFA it looks like they didn't have a lot of edge rushers rated particularly highly. Would it have been better for them to use the 3 picks they used on the OL for edge guys instead in the hopes they got a real edge rusher out of it? I'm ok with what they did and I was one of Jones biggest fans. I think if he stays healthy the Steelers got a steal at 17 with him. The "if he stays healthy" part is a real concern though.
If you're about creating a competition you don't take a flyer on one guy at a position. That increases the chances that he gets the job by default. I think the Jets had a choice in the mid to latter part of the draft. They could either take a few interior line guys to setup a competition there or they could take a few exterior pass rushers to set up that competition. They couldn't really split things and still have the heavy competition that would bring the quality out.
i really think jarvis jones has a true possiblity to be a difference maker... a game changer. maybe i have him ranked too high but only time will tell. he is exactly the type of guy i think you have to get when you are drafting twice in the upper half of the first round..
I think we will see Coples be used as an outside rusher this season. Richardson isn't really a 3-4 nose. So I could see a front of Wilkerson-Ellis-Richardson, and Coples and Barnes on the outside. I guess we will have to see what happens.
if you watch the tape on jarvis jones, i'm just not that impressed. dude doesn't have the bend i want to see from a pass rusher and isn't quick enough to cover players in space. if you watch the tape on sheldon richardson this dude is a FUCKING BEAST. like no joke, he could end up being the best player in the draft he's that naturally gifted. our defensive line of richardson, mo wilk, coples, and kendrick could be a resurgence of the new york sack exchange, it really is the real deal.
I ranked him very highly. He was #7 in the draft on my list. The issue that I see with him is that he's not the last piece of the puzzle and he also doesn't seem likely to have a long career. It's possible he beats the odds and stays healthy and then I think the Steelers got a great player on 17. If the Jets were ready to go with an edge rusher as the key missing piece I'd have been annoyed that they passed on him twice. We're not there yet. On the late rounds thing I think the Geno Smith pick really cinched which direction the Jets were going in setting up the competition in camp. It makes all the sense in the world to overload on offensive linemen to go alongside the vets the Jets have and give Geno the best chance to learn NFL football from his feet and not on the seat of his pants.
