So milliner looks to be the better CB of the 2. Drafting him is acknowledging that wilson isn't cutting it as a 1st round CB selection. What about moving Wilson to FS? What's the do for the defense?
No. FS will be handled by Bush. Rex wants to have as many DBs on the field as possible at any given time and moving Wilson to FS means they have need for yet another corner.
Exactly if Wilson moves, they have no nickle corner. I think we snag a FS in the 3rd round. S has depth this year... i hope Rambo doesn't go in the 2nd.
As I read on the Interwebs this morning, the Milliner pick is to replace Cro next year, not Revis this year.
if Cro gets the assignments that Revis previously shouldered, and Milliner gets the assignments that used to go to Cro, Milliner was still drafted because Revis is gone. I don't think anyone believes Milliner was drafted to be plugged into Revis' spot this season, just that he is needed because Revis is gone.
Isn't Cromartie signed through more than just next year? Unless he has a terrible season this year, I don't see why the Jets would get rid of their best corner after this season.
The reason would be if he wants more money than the Jets can reasonably afford to pay him. If he pulls a "Revis" on the Jets, he will be gone.
I think he will restructure..he is not Revis. He already did this year and his hit is only 6 million instead of the 10 or more that it was.
Revis trade pissed me off at first but now I am realizing what TE benefits are. There is no one like revis so he was just a privilege. Cro-milliner-Wilson is a top 5 cornerback trio if milliner is as good as advertised. Trading revis saves us 16mil each year for the next few years and that's huge. That's 2-3 big free agent signings, 3 starters. Landry-bush- Allen is a serviceable rotation at safety but I really hope we draft a safety. Front seven is looking beastly if Davis performs and Harris returns to form. Which I think will Happen, with this elite/monstrous defensive line. Looking forward to having a top 3 elite defense again. Time to put some offensive pieces together. I hope we take geno or nassib if available in 2nd. Will give us a change and some hope on that side of the ball and I'm a believer in marty turning it around. Jets will be abetter team then everyone is predicting them to be. I don't think they are a glorified expansion team. D WILL be elite. Offensive can only get better with a really offensive coordinator.
Wilson is simply a terrible corner, Nickle corner or not, the guy stinks. I would have no issue moving him to FS, maybe he finds a good fit there. But he is a bust and not working at corner.
I don't believe he's terrible. He's just not on the level that we're used to with Revis and Cro. He stepped in as the new #2 when Revis went down and he wasn't a glaring weakness on the defense.
I was thinking that too. Considering Cro's age and salary he will likely get cut next year if the Jets can get away with starting wilson and Milliner. As others have mentioned though, he might renegotiate.
Terrible??? No, he isn't. He is steadily getting better at CB and I think with the departure of Revis will actually help him. I'm sure he learnt lots off DR, but now he will/should be getting more responsibility. Moving him to FS is an awful idea, firstly I don't think he has the build to be an archetypal FS and secondly if he 'stinks' so bad at CB what on earth do you think he'll be like as a FS, which IMO is far more in depth position to play. Yep, I was very happy with his play and as you say, he stepped up his game.
i was thinking this when the pick came in. not because he is a bad corner(we were spoiled by revis,so anyone else will always seem to suck) but because lankster and trufant are not bad nickle and dime backs. we have the depth to experiment with it and i think wilson has the closing speed and just enough tackling skill to be a decent f.s. either way cb will be a strength and teams will not be able to spread us out and pass effectively
Rex's defense wants competent CB's who can play man-to-man. Now the Jets have a few of those guys to fool around with and they're not paying one of them like a QB. Tom Brady is always going to figure out who to throw the ball too. The only way to stop that is to put a lot of pressure on him and then have competent coverage in the secondary. Having Darrelle Revis back there was a luxury for the Jets because Brady was just going to find somebody else to throw the ball at.
And for the people who cry that Milliner is not ever going to be Revis, I say: who is. None of the CBs playing now are. But they don;t have to be. Their teams win big anyway.
