solid move, he can be a rotational player and has been a good soldier.
barnes, pace, macentire, sapp and high draft pick should be ok

Sure, he had 3 sacks last year, but never forget this:

The Jets don't have the cap space to bluff with. I think he's likely to start with Antwan Barnes coming in as a situational pass rusher. The other OLB is still up for grabs in the draft.

My favorite Pace hit is when he absolutely decked Brady in the AFCE Champ game. I thought Brady's arm was going to fall off after the hit.

Agreed, he definitely signed to play football, not fool other teams.

And again, another fringe signing filling the holes. There's nothing else to be expected out of FA from Idzik, but this is just to stop the hemorrhaging before the draft so we don't have to draft out of necessity. Idzik wants the freedom of drafting value.

Right, this is the most sensible comment. He will certainly play and start. The only way he doesn't is if we draft OLB high or just someone who excels in camp.

Jets need outside linebackers. Between McIntyre, Pace, Barnes and Sapp, you have a mediocre, but not terrible, outside linebacking corps. Throw in a draft pick to compete for a spot, and you have exactly what Idzik wanted: competition.

Hopefully this is for the vet minimum. I assume it is or at least very close to it.

I 100% support this. I like Pace and think he does a better job than given credit for. that being said we still need to get a pass rusher this years draft.

Infinitely better than losing a comp pick or a multi-year deal to any other player.

Can someone speak to why they would make this move before the draft as opposed to after it? Doesn't seem like anyone was chomping at the bit to sign him.

  15. Removes pressure of having to reach for an OLB & to concentrate on value from pick to pick.

I figured either Pace or Thomas would be brought back, for run support and depth if nothing else. i like the signing.

On a side note, assuming Thomas and Moore won't be back, is Mangold and D'brick now our longest tenured Jets? amazing how fast rosters change over.

Agree completely, and he might help mold our rookie draft pick learn the system without the pressure of having to digest too much and be a starter right away. Assuming we get a Mingo or Ansah or a prospect on the 2/3, it will require some time to develop the rookie into an every down player, but they can be used immediately as situational players till they gain the proper technique or bulk up or whatever is needed to be an every down backer. Learning from a vet like Pace while he can still play the run strong is not a bad thing.
