Gauging to see if there is interest in doing a draft competition for this years draft and whether or not people would be interested in doing it. No prize, though if the Mods allow might make a thread with the winners name as the title The concept is simple. No fancy mock ups (despite how much I love to do mock simulations). The rules are, or will be if people decide they are interested. The draft slots will be set as per the NFL draft. The competition will be for the first two rounds of the draft. For every player placed in the correct round you get 1 point. If you place the player on the right team and the right round you get 3 points. A total of 192 points are normally possible, 96 for each round. However, in this years draft there are two forfeited picks so the maximum pointage is 186. There will be 3 categories of winners, first round winner, second round winner and the person who have the highest combined point total between the two rounds. No trading down, though you can factor that you think a team may trade down, in to your picks. There is one exception to this rule. if you believe a team will trade out of the round or back up in to the round you can gamble and make a call, if your wrong you lose 2 points, if your correct you gain an additonal 2 points. NFL trades will be taken in to consideration that are made prior to the deadline for submissions, I'm thinking 1 week before the draft. This is a grading system I've seen used on a couple of sites now, and the highest score I've seen from past years has been I think 51 points for the first round. It aint easy If you all are interested let me know and I'll be happy to run the event, though it may take me a couple days to grade everything out after the draft depending on how many submissions there are and of course what my job workload is like that week, some weeks it's light other weeks I have no spare time till my days off. personally I think it will be a fun chance to put our reps where our mouths are Personally I'll be lucky to break 35 points .
I used to run something similar to this over at hockey's future years ago. We used to do points like this: Player at right slot 4, one slot +/- 3, two slots 1. correct team was worth 2. That gave us points depending on player value and ability to move teams around. I would obviously be interested if you run one.
If I get at least 3 people I'll pop it off if it's less than 10 I might go for a more complex grading system. The draft falls at a crux point in my job where we either have nothing to do or are in overtime galore so if there's a substantial number of people I might not have time to "grade" each draft. But I do like the idea you had there for the points, just not sure I'd have time to do it then.
I'm interested, but I'm not expert on the draft so I'd have to do some more research on what other teams need...
Okay we've got enough to make it worth while then the more the merrier Don't need to be an expert, lord know's I'm not. So it's a go, the deadline will be the Saturday before the draft. Final Draft order will be set 7 days before the draft and will reflect in real world traded slots and picks. That will give 3 days to make adjustments if needed. I'll post a reminder about 1 month out from the draft. (someone nudge me if I forget). Remember, the first two rounds count. I decided to make it 2 rounds because lets face it, it's pretty easy to get at least 25 players in the first round correct, even if it's not to the right team. Depending on how many people sign up will determine which point system we use, Harpua's would be a more accurate, but abit more time consuming to score This should be a lot of fun.
Going to put up a complete roster of contracted players for each team, but it will be in spreadsheet format. Any good place to upload that for easy downloads? It's not going to be ready for a couple weeks as I'm building as much cap info i can for each team as well to sort of give an idea of where each team kind of stands in terms of cap and total players under contract. And I'll try, no promises, to keep it up to date.
Bringing this back to the top since the draft is near. Scoring system will be as follows: 1 point for getting the player in the correct round. 1 point for getting the player in the correct slot 1 point for getting the player to the correct team. Granted in 99% of the cases the correct slot and team will be one and the same, but this provides a means of predicting trades up or down. This will cover the first 2 rounds of the draft. Submissions will only be counted if they are submitted at least by 1159pm eastern time the 22nd of April, 3 days before the draft. I won't promise how quickly I'll score things, it depends on how busy work is that week but I'm prepping a spreadsheet to make the job easier Good luck to those who participate.
