Wilkerson is definitely going to be the leader on the D this year. Coples will have double digit sacks too. But he needs to stop grabbing at QB's heads and facemasks. Someone said Pace, Scott.... (cough cough) ....who? Demario Davis will step up too I have a feeling.
What has Idzik done that gives you all this confidence in him? You act like he's got some great track record as a GM.
He is cleaning the roster and not reaching for aged talent. The jury is still out, no question, but so far so good. The lack of "leaks" from "unnamed sources" has also been a refreshing development. Next let's see how he handles the draft.
QB is not a problem. The Problem on offense....has been fixed, We are on the cusp of a very good season....this morning on NFL Net It was, pointed out, that as bad as the Jets played, they were ...2...yes, 2.... Plays from 8-8. With no offensive cast or coordinator.... Healthy cast, real oc...things are looking up.
I have no complaints about him so far but this guy is acting like we have Jimmy Johnson running the show.
Well we better hope Rex Ryan and this coaching staff doesn't get gutted by the end of the season. btw Idzik hasn't even gone through his first draft, let's relax on the expectations. I think in order to rate Idzik, 2 drafts minimum.
They were just a couple of plays from 4-12 as well. This is the NFL, everyone is separated by just a couple of plays, you could say the same about Buffalo, Miami, Cleveland, etc - a couple plays here or there and they are a playoff team. The NFL Network saying that is just a fluff piece and I'm sure they said the same for most bottom barrel teams. Good teams and good QBs make those plays. The Jets weren't a good team last year and haven't done much of anything to think they are going to be strides ahead of last year. Personally, I think since they will be a younger team next year they will struggle out of the gate. Hopefully the early season schedule is favorable and they can survive the learning curve enough to keep themselves together, at least relevant for the stretch run.. A tough early schedule could easily send this team reeling into another circus atmosphere, ending Rex's run. Either way though, they don't have the horses anywhere on this team to be at the top of the division consistently next season.
Rex has had his way with drafting good Defensive players....but now we have Idzik calling the shots and OC (can't spell his name yet) won't be a push over either....so expect to see some offensive talent getting drafted. Warmack?
It all starts up front. If we do trade Revis and get the 13th pick it would be pretty nice if we drafted start at 9 if he falls and Warmack or cooper at 13. We would solidify our defensive and offensive lines
This is a really important factor in how the rebuild goes. If the Jets suffer an injury-related collapse this season the odds are that Rex and company go away at the end of it. Woody and Idzik probably bring in a coach on the other side of the ball at that point. The trend is to go with QB-friendly head coaches these days and that's probably what happens. The Jets defense has been built with players that were useful in Rex's scheme. Nobody else except Rob is going to be able to put those players together into anything coherent and Rob's not as good as Rex. So in that scenario 2013 was a wipeout and 2014 is a full rebuild on both sides of the ball. If you want to see a Jet Super Bowl in the next 3 or 4 years it's really important that Rex and Idzik put it together. We're in the soup if they fall apart and have to start completely from scratch.
This makes sense, but I cannot believe that Idzik is going to let Rex have a whole lot of input on the first draft pick he makes as Jet G.M. Rex is going to have to do it with Idzik's guys, no? Unless they both happen to agree on the picks.
This is what scares me the most. I hope we hold onto Rex no matter what our record is next season. Consistency is so important and with Rex we'll always have a top 10 D, even if we lose Revis. I just hope Idzik doesn't have a hard on to hire his own head coach, cause if he does then Rex is gone unless they make the playoffs. And that's a pretty tall order with this current roster.
He's signed decent free agents for a small amount of money and hasn't taken any shortcuts like suddenly signing Holmes to a big contract and hasn't given in to any gimmicks like signing Tebow to be a punt protector. Also, he's patient - didn't rush to trade Mevis and now Mevis and his $team are sweating a little bit. There's a chance they'll get to sign him for a reasonable amount of money. If not, they'll trade him for some combination of valuable draft picks and players.
Take a bow...dead on. I mean this "the Jets are barely an NFL team" bullshit is starting to get hysterical. If the front line young guns continue to get better it makes the entire defense better. Even after losing Revis, this defense will be at least equal to last years defense. My only concern are the safety position. Linebackers will be faster and better...and the front line will begin making its mark. Again, it will come down to how much better the offense gets...period.
Especially with someone like Star to contribute or a OLB this will be a young threatening D that Revis will be sad to miss out on,he could of played the year waited till we had the cap next season and signed if he loved us so much. But anyway I'm liking almost every S this year good year to go out and draft one
