Just think, if we get the #13 pick, we can put some quality talent on the field for next season in one draft. We have filled a hole at safety and pass rushing already. We can add a dominant pass rusher at #9, a WR or playmaker at #13, an OL and TE in the later picks, and a late round QB who can fight for competition. Amazing how we purged the shit out of our roster, yet we can still be a SOLID team going into next season if the cards are played right.
This draft is waaaay too deep at this position and the jets have too many holes to pick a TE in any round before the 3rd. Said it before, love Dion Sims in the 4-5 range. Guy reminds me of Antonio Gates
you guys need to stop for real if we pick Ertz in the 2nd thats great value, point blank period Ertz will thrive in our offense with Hill on the outside, Kerley in the slot and Holmes as our #1 thats a pretty good passing game to build with until we find the right QB to bring it all together
we could probably get Ertz/Eiert in the second, so no. I want any combination of these 4 players if we get the 9 & 13 overall: Warmack, Jordan, Jones, Patterson, Rhodes.
I wouldn't be upset with Tyler at 13 if he was the best player available that's a need for us. A perfect draft for me would be Jones at 9 and maybe Kenny Vaccaro at 13. Since this draft is supposed to be loaded with TEs I'd say grab one in the 3rd unless there's great value in the second. A guy that has fallen out of many of our minds is Gio Bernard. I know we got Goodson but if Gio presents good value in the second, should the Jets take him?
People think he is too short and small to set the edge against the run. Rex Ryan also tends to use larger OLB over smaller ones. I for one would love to get Jones though. I think we need someone who has natural pass rushing ability and there is no doubt that Jones does.
He is small for an OLB but like you said he produces. Von Miller is around the same weight as Jones and he's still dominant. It was said that Jones was the Miller of this draft.. Give me Jones over any pass rusher in this draft.
Yup.. before all this combine and pro day stuff people said that if he didn't have the injury he would of been the #1 pick. Now that he's cleared medically but had a poor workout he's no longer any good. People forget about the production and focus on the measurables.
If we get the 13th pick a lot does open up. My list would be: 1) Warmack 2) Vaccaro 3) Eifert 4) Austin 5) Cooper The more I think about it the more I'm liking Austin over Eifert though.. An offense with Holmes Medley Austin and Hill should be good. Hill takes over for Holmes next year and Kerley and Austin rotate from slot to outside until one of the is comfortable to stay put. I take Warmack to make our OLine solid. If he's not there I take Vaccaro. We need a good safety back there especially now that Revis is gone.
Yes he did...but he was rarely asked to drop into coverage & was only so-so at setting the edge. Those are both 2 biggies in Rex's scheme. He likes OLB's he can leave on an island be it in pass coverage or the running game in order to give his unique looks. Can he be taught coverage and to set the edge better?Well to start, his workout displayed below average movement skills & that doesn't instill much confidence in his long term coverage ability. Additionally his size doesn't cry out "edge setter" as he lacks length which Rex loves, & he doesn't have the frame to add the needed weight. Truthfully I think Jones would do best in a "Downhill" scheme like Detroit. He can definitely bring the pressure & fill gaps w/ his quick feet & heavy hands. I just highly doubt Rex is gonna envision him as a 3-down multi-scheme player on his D. At the end of the day, we can like a player..but he has to fit in the defense somewhere down the line. No one has been able to explain where Jones fits as a 3 down player in this scheme. I get that he "played 34 in college" but for one the Jets DON'T just play 3-4..and secondly Rex leaves the outside guys on an island which is something he has no experience at handling.
