I love the pick, especially if we are the ones picking Austin in the #13 spot and Nassib in the second round!

Hell yeah! Jarvis Jones is the man.

He's the guy we need. I hope and pray we do not pass up on him if he is available at 9

  4. Not as high on Jones as others. There are too many red flags to ignore & unless we switch to a full time 4-3, I don't see where he fits as a 3 down player.

Didn't he play 3-4 OLB at Georgia?

You do realize Jones has only ever played in a 34 scheme? That he has pure natural pass rush instincts. When he learns what a weight room is and adds athleticism to his gift, no one will stop him.

If he learns what a weight room is. Work ethic red flags mean more than many think.

  8. Yes I am aware. What worries me is his lack of length. He really doesn't have the frame to add anymore weight. 6'3 245 in Rex's scheme is alot different than between the hedges.

Now can he handle setting the edge at 245 in the NFL? Maybe. But that's just ANOTHER question regarding this guy to add to the others.

    - Is the spinal stenosis really a non issue?
    - Can he overcome the lack of triangle numbers at the next level?

Forget the highlight reel for a minute. That's an awful lot of big questions to overcome.

Would be really disappointed if we took Jones. He's undersized and really unathletic... a terrible combination. Production at college rarely transfers 1:1 to the NFL, and there are too many people who are blinded by Jones' college stats against future gas station cashiers. Jones is too unathletic to be taken at 9. Maybe in the 2nd round I'd be ok with him. Take Mingo or Jordan instead. They have a much higher ceiling.

  10. I don't feel much differently than you.I think there is a spot for Jones in Rex's scheme but only on a part time basis.

Additionally, when you break down exactly what the jets need at OLB..it's not just pass rush ability but also speed/athleticism.I don't think Jones meets those requirements.

No thanks... Jones was a ghost When Georgia played Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

I have a just as many concerns over Mingo and his lack of production in 2012 and admitting he took plays off...as I do with Jones.

That being said, I think the Jets may just surprise and not address OLB at #9.

Don't be surprised if Kenny Vaccaro is strongly considered, his stock is on the rise and he comes from a quality program that produces great DBs in the NFL.

Jones is a top 4 player in this draft. He's the only guy I see out there who I am sure will be a star if he doesn't get hurt. The neck is an issue that has to get cleared by the Jets medical staff though.

  14. Very possible especially if you consider that Rex loves DBs.

I look at Jones & Mingo very similarly in terms of red flags. That said I'm slightly more receptive to Mingo b/c I think he fits in Rex's scheme..and I think his strengths are in areas that the jets need help.

I see less risk with Vaccaro, and we can pick up a player like Cornelius Washington in Rd 3.

Teams like Cincy & Dallas are looking at Vaccaro big time, I think he will be long gone before they have a chance.

  16. Vaccaro certainly fits the bill of a safety in Rex's system. Active pre snap, disciplined in his reads, always around the football & he knows how to finish physically

Mingo's first step is insanely fast, and he has surprisingly good balance and turns the corner well. He also has the frame to get stronger. As long as he has the desire (one of the many things that only scouts and nfl staff can evaluate and not us) he can be coached into a monster. It's extremely tough to become faster at this point for Jones. Hell, it's even tough for him to get stronger since he's relatively short and already filled out. Not to mention Jones isn't that great at stopping the run.

Vaccaro is an excellent run stopper in the box player and solid in coverage.

He was double teamed by either a tackle or TE and pulling guard on every running play. The problem was that the inside players weren't getting outside to make the plays and were being sealed off. He also had two sacks against an all NFL offensive line.

I think the jets would be insane to pass on him. I was glad he tested low on 40. That way we can get him. Otherwise he would be gone to the Browns at the latest.

I have watched a ton of UGA games and he stands out every game. He single handedly won their game against UF. I will be livid if we pass on Jones or Jordan if either are available at 9. Jones is the polar opposite of Vernon Gholston. He was the best defensive player in the SEC two years in row (the only two years he was eligible to play).

The stenosis thing also means nothing. A guy can get his neck hurt with or without stenosis.

Never questioned Mingo's physical abilities, I have issues with the 3lbs between his ears.

You can't teach, heart and commitment, something he lacks. Both M&M boys at LSU have issues and aren't close top ten players....very immature.

If said this dozens of times.....the 3rd "M boy" Minter is the best defensive player on LSU's team.
