I'm starting to feel like if Dion Jordan gets selected before nine, the next pick in line should be Tavon Austin. I don't feel strongly about any of the other linebackers, and even though QBs will be selected in the 1st round, it's iffy whether or not they're worthy of being franchise QBs. Tavon Austin might be a reach at nine, but only by a few picks. He's the best receiver in the draft, and is considered a Percy Harvin type of player. Harvin just got traded for a first rounder, and while Harvin was picked the 20s, do we really want to take a risk when we need a playmaker this bad? He is a fit in the West Coast Offense, and would be a big help to Mark Sanchez who looks to be the starter this year. And he would automatically be our most explosive player since like Santana Moss. The dude is also very versatile and can line up at halfback. http://thejetsblog.com/nyjets/nfl-drafts-justifiable-jets-tavon-austin/ Lets start to build that offense with a playmaker. If Reggie Bush was considered in the top ten, I wouldn't mind considering a better player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3_UNFZHSQU
There's only 3 players over 6'3" to run a 4.3 or faster 40yard dash in NFL history Calvin Johnson Randy Moss Stephen Hill Not bad company to be in. Give him time to develop, physically he's got all the tools. It's premature to be drafting a 1st round WR in my opinion.
I'm a big Stephen Hill believer. I'm curious, if he were to stay in school one more year, would he be considered a 1st rounder with an extra year of experience? Now realize that the year of school was replaced by a year in the NFL, where he has greater access to trainers/nutritionists/coaches to be a better receiver. Hill's value entering his second year is like a top 10 pick this year, why use the #9 pick on a wr?
I'm in! Explosive player, touchdown maker. I believe he can be much more than a slot receiver. Not crazy about any of the OLB's. Austin makes perfect sense.
If we draft a WR I want a pure hands catcher like Aaron Dobson Hill, Dobson and Kerley in the future will be nasty
Outside of Bridgewater and Johnny Football (who I think will be severly injured before too long with that playing style), I wouldn't be thrilled tagging any of the other QBs in the '14 draft as "our new franchise QB". And if you're implying we'd get either Bridgewater or Menziel, could you please explain how the hell we'd get hold of one of them next year...? Or to rephraze - how do you envision us getting hold of pick #1-3, or would you be happy with any of the other QBs being our franchise guy?
The reason im not against draft a WR 1st round is because we had a sorry Receiving Core last year as much as they blame Sanchez there were a lot of dropped passes. As far as Austin goes he is a gadget player and he is short but fast plus we already have Kerley so with Holmes Austin Kerly we would be Smurfs. Id rather us get a taller Receiver like Patterson who can get those Jump balls in the Redzone.
I'd rather have DaRick Rogers. Probably has the most talent of any wide receiver in the draft. His off he field issues is what's keeping him from being picked in the first round.
Both Tayvon Austin & Corradelle Patterson are viable options at 9. Why? B/c they're dynamic offensive playmakers. It's a quality that is hard to come by & means something in this league. Now perhaps neither are the full package for one reason or another. But most of the time the great ones are always flawed in one small area of their game. It's not always the total package prospect that becomes a dominant star in this league. Rare playmaking ability always rises to the top.
These are the college receiving stats for the 3 you listed and Tavon Austin. Guess who is who? 2 years, 168 receptions, 3356 Yards, 53 TD's 3 years, 178 receptions, 2927 Yards, 28 TD's 3 years, 49 receptions, 1248 Yards, 9 TD's 4 years, 288 receptions, 3413 Yards, 29 TD's btw, Austin also had over 1000 yards rushing during his college career. Point being, production is very important - probably more so than combine numbers.
I would love Austin if we didn't have Kerley to be honest If Austin was stronger though I'd also bite, he's just too light to put on the outside consistently
I think Kerley is better suited for the slot. Austin can be a dynamic #2 WR in the Desean Jackson type mold. I see what you mean, though. In a perfect world, Hill develops into a #1 WR (with his height, size and strength), and we can then dump Holmes. Hill-Austin-Kerley would be a great WR core.
