The only way Palmer comes to the Jets is if no contender makes him an offer *and* no non-contender will meet his price, which is going to be about $10M a year.

The Jets can maybe afford $5-6M at the outside. That's going to put them in the sour spot of being not good enough to attract him on a competitive basis and too cheap to attract him on a monetary basis.

    EXACTLY!!

Palmer has said he wants to start for a contender and many on here keep repeating that, but what contender needs a QB?

Exactly. Palmer would be an upgrade over what we currently have and would obviously only be a stopgap. On a rebuilding team that has to be looking towards the future, Im not sure if its the best idea. He would probably help us win 7-8 games, which would push us out of the top 10 and definitely take us out of the Bridgewater or Manziel running.

If we draft Geno Smith or Nassib or any QB, having Palmer start would not be a bad idea though. He could keep us relatively competitive and bridge the time until that rookie QB can start (maybe a season).

Yeah and Palmer might not keep them a contender if he was on the team...

    That is true also.

See we are in a bind. We are not contenders, but Palmer will be a better option over what we have. No contender would be better off with Palmer starting period.

I mentioned this in the Sanchez thread, but if he comes cheap he's a good option. He wants to prove himself, he had an okay year last year in Oakland. He's not going to save this franchise, but that's not we are looking for in a FA. We are looking for someone who can step in for a couple years if Sanchez implodes and we start looking for the next QB.

So let me understand this, by this logic mark was qb'ing a team that beat Manning and Brady,. So because he beat them we shouldn't want them either?

I'd consider him on a one year deal for maybe 3M...

It has absolutely nothing to do with what type of a QB he is.

One thing I have never understood is when an analyst will use a stat like

"The Jets are 1-5 in their last 6 games at Pittsburgh"

To factor into their prediction. Im thinking to myself "what the hell does Chad Pennington, Herm Edwards, etc losing to Bill Cowhers Steelers have anything to do with THIS Jets team playing against THIS Steelers team....90% of the players, coaching staff and personal had nothing to do with the previous game......do the color of their helmets and uniforms have any impact on the game?"

Picking up Carson Palmer would be an excellent move. He could hold down the fort until we could draft a QB and developed him.

The Raiders issues last year was not at the QB position by a long shot. I watched ever one of their games last year, I know.

The jets are at minimum a very dangerous team next year with carson palmer...

if palmer is around for 3-4 years - around for the entire rebuild, that is - imo he could stabilize the position, the offense, and the entire team, while grooming the next QB and buying a window of time to develop that QB or reassess options in 3 years...

i would go out on a limb and say that palmer in a last gasp of his career could work well in a west coast system, where lots of balls are going to the rb and ball-control type passes.

he's not going to go peyton manning on anyone, and will throw the killer game-end int, but he's not as bad as chad pennington at the end of his time here.

the jets could win a championship with ryan in control of a top 10 defense coupled with Morhinweg/Palmer's vet control of an offense(and with a pass rusher...and/or dynamic run game).

i wld not be surprised if they hit on all cylinders. Rex Ryan has never had a true seasoned veteran QB to rely on. i would love to see that.

I don't know if I would say that, they have still lost most of their starters on both defense and offense but they would be better than they are with Sanchez for sure.

im gonna be honest, ive even googled carson palmer and the jets and i dont see SHIT. the jets media is used to having stuff to say every day so now they are just pulling shit out of their asses to get a story.

but if it is true, i think we should bring him in cheap. people act like this team is dirt poor, but really the talent isn't that bad. i don't want to put all the blame on sanchez, but he seriously hindered the performance of the team last year

don't forget - they're getting back from injury:
Holmes and Revis. Cumberland more time also.

coming back as vets after their rookie years:
Coples and Hill, Demario Davis. Josh Bush and Antonio Allen.

coming back as vets with greater opportunity:
    Ellis and Harrison. Ducasse.

    significant defections:
Keller (double listed bc of injury - hardly played), Devito, Pouha (double listed bc of injury - hardly played), Moore (but shell of his former self), Slauson. Landry, Bell. Bryan Thomas. Pace.

    significant additions:
    Goodson. Colon. Barnes. Garay. Mornhinweg!

who we are losing that is addition by subtraction:
the entire offensive scheme and playcalling (name withheld). Eric Smith. Shonn Greene. Keller (double listed bc of injury - hardly played), pouha (double listed bc of injury - hardly played). Pace (no pass rush). BT (no pass rush).

here's the team currently constructed before the draft and final FA signings.
    noted for significance
upgradable via draft or FA with great chance of actual upgrade
position already upgraded via FA or coming back from injury
So now you have starting O

    OC Mornhinweg
    _X Hill
    _Y Holmes
    _Z Kerley
    TE Cumberland
    RT Howard
    RG Colon
    _C Mangold
    LG Ducasse
    LT Brick
    QB Palmer
RB Goodson, Powell, McKnight - WC offense - manifold increase in passes to RBs
    PK Folk

    and defense
de facto DC - Rex Ryan
    FS Bush
    SS Allen

    LCB Cro
    RCB Revis
    SCB Wilson
    ILB Harris
    ILB Davis
    OLB/DE Barnes
    OLB/DE McIntyre
    DE/DT Wilkerson
    NT/DT Ellis, Harrison, Garay
    DE/DT Coples

    Now -

consider this defense with Barkevious Mingo, Jarvis Jones, Margus Hunt, etc - a real passrusher, and Dawan Landry.

and consider the offense with Warmack, Cooper, Warford or Eifert.

Then you will have upgraded DE, FS, TE or OG with blue chip talent or a vet.

I think this is a team that can challenge. Especially if the defense gets a passrusher.
