Everyone has seen the new regime in action. It is easier to speculate as to what they might do now.

So how do you see the rest of the off-season playing out? Cuts, restructuring, FA, draft, new schemes, etc.

    Here is what I see:

New CBA being signed. Therefore, giving the Jets some cap space. With the restructuring of Moore, Ellis, and Coles, the Jets are already below 94.5 now. The new CBA will put the cap at around 105, so they will be able to sign some free agents.

Pennington and Kendall will restructure giving more cap relief.

Mawae will be released, saves a little more.

    Washington will be released.

    Resign Kenyatta Wright

Bently will be the big name FA signing.

Putzier and Kitna will be targets. I can see one being signed. Kitna will not impact the cap that much and Putzier can be signed for a reasonable contract I think. Depends on what they are asking.

Abraham will be traded to either Denver or Detroit. Even though most reports have Denver getting him, I have a suspicion it will be Detroit for a first.

The FO seems more inclined (based on articles I have read) to bring in a vet than draft a QB. Brick will be the pick at 4. Whether we trade with Denver or Detroit, the second first rounder will be another OL. Maybe Mangold for depth (depth has been a problem for years under the past regime and I hope it is addressed), but it is possible they will take White if he is available (he won't be if we get a pick from Denver, but might be there if they get Detroit's pick).

I am not sure how the rest of the draft will play out to be honest. But I suspect it will be focused on offense and adding depth to the DB corps.

Like I said this is just what I think will happen based on my impressions of the FO so far, it is not complete by any means. Your thoughts and predictions are welcome.

Interesting take. I think with Mangini being a defensive guru, one of the 1st round picks would be for a D-lineman, LB or CB. Just a hunch...

I disagree with the Mangold for "depth" statement. If we are going to spend a late first or early 2nd round pick on this guy, I want him starting ASAP, as other high round line picks have done. I trust that he would be more reliable than Kendall, who appears to have lost a step or two in the C position.

  4. Change LeCharles Bentley to the Falcons LT as the big FA signing and I'd be thrilled w/ that offseason..

Give me Cutler at 4 and Vernon Davis at 9

True. To be honest, I just threw that out there to see what people think. But I could see the FO drafting 2 OL in the 1st round. And Line depth has to be addressed. We can not depend on Goodwin backing up 3 positions and shuffling Kendall around the line when someone gets hurt, like they were doing under the past regime.

I thought about that. But it is obvious that Mangini and Tanny are focusing on rebuilding the OL. So I think they want to add some quality talent there and fast, which means they need more than one FA OT. If they sign Bentley to be center, Draft Brick, and maybe another OL in the 1st or 2nd round it would make the line young and stable for years. Add to that Kendall, Moore, Jones, and Cavka, the line looks pretty good, real fast, with solid depth.

Personally I would rather get Putzier then draft Davis. Putzier is young, decent hands, a blocker, and has NFL experience. The Jets already have a young project TE with a big upside in Dreesen, they don't need two.

I think if we pick a running back, assuming the Detroit 1st rounder, it will only be White, not the Memphis kid. Mangini wants tough players and White fits that mold better. But I really don't think we would take offense with the 9th (or Denver) pick, assuming we go q-back with the 4th pick. I see us more likely taking the best d-tackle or perhaps Chad Greenway, maybe even trading down from 9 to the 15 area and picking up more picks.

I see this regime doing more of the Logan Mankins type Patriot drafting; guys that you haven't heard much about but fit their tough, smart, passionate mold very well, versus highly talented but highly fagile (both physically and mentally) guys, ala John Abraham.

If your last prediction comes through, that means we will have gone 2-14 or 3-13 in 2006, because Quinn will be the #1 pick in April 2007. Unless, we trade Abraham to someone this year for a 2007 #1 pick, and that team happens to lay an egg in the 2006 season.

We could trade up to get him or draft a different QB. I just think we'll draft a quarterback next year, not this year

The putz was cut. Everone in love with the ideal we give up a 2nd for him, are you still wanting a putz on your team?

I believe we will sign guys that make you go WHO! If I still remember those WHOS won 3 out of 5s for the pats. If we go 4-12 and start the rookies(12 picks), I'm still ok with this(Belichickens 1st year) If we get major complaints in camp about its too tough so much the better(again Belichickens 1st year) Oh yeah no big contracts,no loyalties. Alot of similarities between Mangini and Billachicken....I like it.
