Let's assume Jets do not pick OLB in round 1. What OLB would you all be hoping Jets strongly consider in round 2 or later? If possible, please give the round that you'd consider your candidate. We can assume these guys are unavailable when Jets draft in 2nd round: Dion Jordan Javis Jones DaMontre Moore Barkevious Mingo Alec Ogletree Anyway, these are some candidates I've been thinking about: Jamie Collins (Southern Mississippi): Unfortunately, I only see two 2012 games from him online (Nebraska & W. Kentucky). He seems to have good speed & I like his ability to make the tackles once he was in the backfield. Was reading that his team overall was pretty bad, so Collins was used to getting the attention whenever he stepped onto the field. Thought he would be an awesome pickup in 3rd round but some mocks are now putting him in 2nd round. I'm not so sure he's so good with Jets 2nd round selection but I wouldn't be upset if Jets disagreed with me & grabbed him there. Corey Lemonier (Auburn): Like that he was productive in the SEC. Thought he did a nice job of consistently generating pressure & he's already got some pass rushing techniques in him. Like his hustle by chasing ball carrier onto other side of the field & then down the field on replays. He's somebody I also liked in the 3rd but some mocks are pushing him into the 2nd round also. ========= Know there's more good prospects to add here but I'm still watching/reading up on those outside round 1 OLB. I'm sure others have OLB prospects they like after round 1. Please Share the Info
Trevardo Williams from UConn looks like a star in the making. He's really fast for his size and he has a great opening burst which is where most of his sacks come from. He's not a "potential" guy either, he had 30.5 sacks for the Huskies. He was a track sprinter in high school. Sprinter playing DE, that's insane. People will point to Aaron Maybin as the downside here but Maybin was a 1st rounder. This guy goes in the 4th.
If he gets over-drafted there's nothing the Jets can do about it. He's not worth a 3rd round pick or a trade-up into the 3rd to get. He'd be a great pick in the 4th round. He's too small to play DE in the NFL and he's unproven in coverage as a LB. He has the speed to play LB but whether he has the mobility and flex to cover is an unknown at this point. I suspect that some team might take a flyer on him in the 3rd round and if that happens it happens. Can't fall in love with a prospect and make him a must-have. That's how you lose value in the draft, something the Jets have done repeatedly over the last decade.
Quanterus Smith is a big time sleeper... Tore his ACL, but was very productive last year with 12.5 sacks. His ACL will definitely cause him to fall, especially because he wont be able to workout predraft. He would definitely be worth a look in the mid to late rounds. Alex Okafor could be there in the 2nd round for us. Im a big fan of Corey Lemonier after the 1st round as well. Brandon Jenkins has fell off the map completely with a poor outing at his proday running a 4.9. Before he injured himself, he was a 1st round pick. He's probably not close to 100% yet, so I wouldnt put much into his 40. He would be a very good target in the 3rd or 4th. Cornelius Washington intrigues me a ton... Incredible measurable, but doesnt have the stats. Would definitely love him the 4-5 range, but I have a feeling a team will overdraft him.
I too like Corneilus Washington if he's available in the 4th or 5th. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=84810&draftyear=2013&genpos=de 02/27/13 NFL DRAFT SCOUT RISER: 3. Cornelius Washington, DE, Georgia...The Bulldogs have several defenders who will hear their name called in the 2013 NFL Draft, including notable prospects like Jarvis Jones, Alec Ogletree and John Jenkins. However, one name who is often overlooked is Washington, a versatile pass rusher who turned heads at the Senior Bowl and this past week in Indianapolis. At 6-4 and 265 pounds, he was one of the top performers among several drills, including the 40-yard dash (4.55), bench press (36 reps), vertical leap (39 inches) and broad jump (10-8). Miscast as a down-lineman in the Georgia's three-man front, Washington registered just a half sack as a senior in 2012 and was used to occupy blocks, freeing up room for Jones and the other Bulldog pass rushers. But Washington has the athleticism to be a handful for blockers in his own right. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
