we still have a long ways to go. If we have a strong draft we could actually be competitive this year.

We need at least 2 safeties, a guard, 1 or 2 more linebackers, and WR / TE.

If MM can get this offense to execute week in and week out, I think we could get to 8-8...

Yep, the only way this team was going to tank next year was if Rex left. I know the guy is not the greatest head coach. He has holes in his game all over the place but he puts together solid defenses and he has his teams in most games late.

As you said, that's 6 to 8 win territory for the kind of talent the Jets are likely to have on hand. I'd stretch it out a bit and say 5 to 9, because if the Jets somehow come up with a decent QB they have some play but if they have a few key injuries they'll sink some on that factor.

Nice post, you are correct. It is a clear sign of the teams lack of talent.

Because unless you draft a QB like Luck, your draft doesn't effect your team very much the following year.

    Everybody know that.....

We had our best draft in the last 5 years, last year, did it improve our team record? Nope it did not.

A draft can definitely transform your team.

Look at Indy last year. They were thought to tank the entire year. They grabbed Luck at QB and look how they ended up.

With higher draft picks, the picks can definitely cause a better record. For instance, we are lacking a decent starting QB. If we grabbed say Geno Smith, I can almost assure you he will win more games than Sanchize did last year. Same thing with defensive players. If you have no pass rush, getting a guy like Jarvis Jones can totally change that and make your defense that much better.

Every year, the phags and Jills are ranked ahead of us.

The Jills dont even have a starting QB.

If the Jets are a Circus, the sports media are the clowns.

You may have missed this but he prefaced his statement with "Unless you draft a qb like Luck".. so going on to talk about how Luck changed the Colts isn't really a good argument

    Nope, didn't see that LOL

I still think draft picks can definitely help a team's record. Hell, it might do that with us. We can't fill every hole in free agency, but with solid picks, we can. If those holes hadn't been filled through the draft, it probably would be a totally different outcome.

You have 7 picks...how many do you think will be starters?

Depending on the Revis trade, possibly at least 4.

If we got Tampa's first round this year, we would have 2 starters from the first round and probably starting our 3rd round and 4th.

Pass rusher (hole we need filled), TE (hole we need filled), OL (holes we need filled) and a safety (hole we need filled).

Those are just some of the holes we need. We are not drafting this year for depth. We are drafting for starters.

anything can happen in the nfl. it's all about teamwork and execution. the jets haven't executed well in the past few years, and i think they still need to get rid of some dead weight. the team folded a number of times last season, which is the worst sign. but they play the games for a reason. i'll always have hope for them.
