The JETS have already signed OLB Antwan Barnes and NT Antonio Garay to very modest contracts to fill some defensive positions. There is one more player that can help the JETS and has been productive for many years setting the edge and getting to the QB from the Chargers that still remains unsigned in OLB Shaun Phillips.

I believe that Phillips can immediately upgrade the JETS pass-rush on the outside with Barnes getting a chance to compete for the other starting OLB spot for the Green and White. I'm sure Idzik can make the numbers work and bring him in on a two year contract.

The guy cannot fit under the cap. He's going to get a short-term deal at $5-6M a year and the Jets just can't fit that under this years cap.

He'll be 32 in May, so only if he comes on the CHEAP.
I would rather Idzik just double dip at OLB in the draft.

I would like the Jets to be granted an exemption to exceed the salary cap. As is life.

what about some of the free agent safties? I know we aren't planning on replacing both safeties through the draft after drafting two safties last year. What do you guys think?

LaRon Landry's younger brother, Dawan Landry, is still a free agent, the JETS should consider Dawan Landry as a viable option at Safety.

I think LaRon is the younger one but anyways yeah I'd like to bring Dawan here. We need at least one veteran safety.

We will draft some more linebackers, We badly need safteys right now more then anything else, Why no calls to Pollard??? Theres no one Eric Smith is gon Bell gone Landry Gone. I think Josh Bush is the only one left and who is he. Bell and Landry were a main part of the reason our pass defense was still in the top 5 when Revis went down. We need a permanent solution at the saftey spot its always a revolving door

I'd stay away from Shaun Phillips. The guy is clearly on the decline in his career. He's an extremely overrated pass rusher who has flop written all over him.

Barnes was the better OLB to sign.

phillips doesn't seem to fit the m.o. here. he is over 30, going to cost over 2 mil and offers no upside.

Phillips would be a nice 1 year addition but I doubt we can afford him. Victor Butler is a possibility but I see us going OLB in the draft.

Is Maybin playing any where? He'd be as good as anyone else in the $1M range.

We're trying to get younger. Not older. Faster. Not slower.

You can't rebuild a team overnight. I keep reading all Jets fans saying things like "we're rebuilding we can't sign old players", well, you can't hand your team over to 23 year olds at every position and ever expect to accomplish anything. Mentorship is important. Phillips also won't cost 5-6m/year as someone suggested.

Phillips isnt worth our time. The guy is an extremely overrated pass rusher, has been for awhile now. We'd honestly be better off bringing back Pace on a small deal.
