Now I could be wrong, but if he reduced his salary 6.2 mill, the got an 8.25 mill signing bonus that needs to hit the books over the next two years (4.125 mill per) it's actually only a savings of 1.4 mill cap space per year.
Well we need about 5 million for draft picks and 2 million for in season... Thats not even considering signing any free agents. It would also be beneficial if would could find some low cost free agents like Victor Butler, Matt Slauson, Geoff Schwartz, ect... James Casey would have been awesome if we had the money. We have to fill spots on this team, even if we dont have the cap room. Also if we trade Revis I believe we take a cap hit.
Money to play with makes life interesting. All the talk of bargain basement guys in free agency was as captivating as watching paint dry.
http://www.overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Antonio Cromartie&Position=CB&Team=Jets According to over the cap (same guy who runs the jets cap site) we basically push 4 mill of this years cap hit for Cro into next year, where his cap number becomes almost 15 mill .... Yuck
Still not enough space, yes, we need 3 mill in space created just to trade him this year, I doubt it's for a restructure.
Unlike Sanchez, Cromartie deserves a restructure. I actually thought the Revis talk was for trading Cromartie, but I guess I was wrong.
DAMN. Thats a serious cut. Hopefully it means getting at least one or two serious FA's. Nothing off the top of my head, but yeah this can work. and no i doubt its to cut sanchez. he's still a 17 mil hit if ire call and even with the what'sit 12 mil we saved today thats still sizable enough to not warrant cutting him. I'm thinking some veteran OLB, Landry, maybe a new WR, or a new CB to repalce Revis will be in tow along with draft picks at positions like TE, S,Rb and QB. this is very good management, even if its gonna hurt next year (we're basically paying him for two years of his services all at once next year)
How is it good management to make him unaffordable next season while hardly saving any this season? The Jets aren't signing any "serious" FA's. They still can't afford it and nobody is taking paycuts, they're just delaying their money making an even more abysmall cap situation the following year and have yet to fill a single hole fixing this years mess.
