Agreed guys! The only issue for Garrard is his ability (or lack thereof) is too take hits and damage on that knee and his back. He is a good solid QB in the league and certainly an upgrade over Sanchez. I was completely ok with him starting this past year after reading the solid reviews he was getting in TC.
Yea for some reason i thought his stats were better then that, I shoulda checked. I still think Sanchez will be the starter regardless. But atleast now if he stinks up the place we have a decent second option
Could POSSIBLY hand the franchise over to considering Flynn's contract, his average arm and the fact that Flynn's really an unproven commodity? Possiblly? Care to back that up with a mock draft showing the Jet's draft 'failures' (rounds 1-7) versus your preferred mock draft?
How much are we paying Garrard? It doesn't mention it anywhere. This move is fine for the short term, if for no other reason than it gives us someone other than putrid Sanchez.
Agreed!!! Oh, and for those of you who keep yammering on about Flynn....he is under CONTRACT!!!! The only way you are getting Flynn is if we trade for him and I swear to god I will personally fly back east to NJ and slap the "I" off of Idzik's name if we drop ANY draft picks for an unknown QB. The Seahawks aren't releasing him either... I think that, considering our situation, D.G. is more than capable of coming in and either pushing Sanchez to his potential or taking the starting role for a year. I watched Hard Knocks and he was doing just fine before the knee injury. We could have done a LOT worse...Quinn anyone? About the only QB I see worth drafting is Ryan Nassib and that is simply because he may actually be there in the 2nd round...which is where his true value says he should be. Of course, some idiot team will take him in the 1st making this moot. But, as you can see...I say do not draft ANY QB with the first 4 rounds, unless Nassib is there in the 2nd. We have too many holes to massively "reach". Garrard will do just fine for the year...I can live with a lineup of Garrard/Sanchez/McElroy. God, I'm going to regret saying this...but I can even live with Tebow remaining on the roster as long as they ACTUALLY use him as an H-back and train him as such!
THANK GOD. For the first time in four years we actually have a viable NFL QB on the roster. The only question with this guy is health. YES ... it's a big question ... but the fact is, if he can give us at least 10 starts, Garrard is light years ahead of Sanchez on ability and brains. At least he's proven that he can play in this league ... somehting Sanchez never has proven. And I'm pretty sure he's never been ranked at the bottom of the league in QB play ... Sanchez's neighborhood. There's no doubt in my mind if we ask Garrard to simply manage the game, he can do it without leading the league in turnovers.
I like the signing, but bring in at least one more re-tread for competition just in case Garrard's health isn't all there.
How exactly are we getting fleeced? I bet we're paying him next to nothing, and/or giving him an incentive laden contract. He and his agent both know that he has to prove he can stay on the field.
I have always been a fan of David Garrard. If this were 3-4 years ago, I would love the move, but he's into his mid 30's now, with an injury history. But it's not then, it's now in 2013 where I just can't be comfortable because I know he isn't a long term solution. We still need that desperately.
The question is, will the competition be fair and just without any biased? After all, the head coach has a tattoo of his wife wearing a Sanchez jersey. If D.G. smokes Sanchez, and I'm more then certain he will, will Sanchez still be GIFT WRAPPED the starting position anyway. Rex has to earn my trust back from scratch.
I'm hoping we see old tires hanging from cranes all over the field with different points for distance and angle. Hopefully they can chart the throws through the tires and publish them or tweet them at the end of each day. Most points after the first week starts. Unless the team has decided to cut Sanchez either this year or next having a competition with a 35 year old QB who hasn't played in 2 years is insane. Nice backup upgrade over Mc.
I was never a fan of Garrard, so just because the Jets have cap problems, we should all be excited? F that. Dude couldn't stick in Jville due to injuries, including a herniated disk. He also has knee problems. I know it's a small matter to some, but he also picked Miami last year because he likes Miami. F that. 35 years old, has not played in two years, and when he was healthy he had at best an average turnover ratio. Odds are Sanchez will outplay him in camp. Yeah, the cap limits options, but I would have preferred the Jets get someone healthier and younger to provide real competition to Sanchez, like Kyle Orton. This is a total meh move that would have been sucky if it weren't for the cap problems. So the cap moves it from sucky to meh. I think that covers it, other than that I hope they are not done trying to get someone in there who will really provide competition and an upgrade at Qb.
So we sign a guy to practice on a 90 man roster, and see what he has left. If he can play to form, he is an upgrade, especially in accuracy, if not, cut his ass. Hell, I am not even convinced Sanchez will make it past draft day on the roster.
This should really show you how serious the Jets are about bringing in competition for Sanchez. Hell, they're already letting it slip Sanchez is probably gonna start next year.
Chances are he won't become much having been out of the game for awhile, but I will say this: I like that he's got something to prove. Nothing wrong with grabbing a hungry, saavy vet. I think he will push Sanchez more than most think and it's certainly possible he could take the reins. I remember he was always a mentally tough QB who was smart with the football - considering that's the opposite of Sanchez I like the pickup. Maybe he doesn't have the physical abilities to play anymore and that's fine they can always move on if this is true - but at least he will be busting his ass for another shot and he'll be experienced and smart enough to know what he can and can't do. I like the move.
