Mike Tannenbaum is someone who could potentially be familiar with Revis's thinking about wanting to be the highest paid defensive player in the game if he was involved in preliminary contract talks where Revis's agents communicated that to him. That could be why the Jets were allegedly looking into trading Revis prior to the injury last year. Since he was fired 3 weeks prior to this report coming out he would no longer be considered within the Jets organization but could still be familiar with the thinking. I'm not saying that is the source, I'm saying it's a possibility and I don't think the wording would be misleading if it was. I still don't get why you are making it a point to try and pinpoint which side the source is on. Can you explain why that matters?
Revis is great, but it's time to move on. No rebuilding team, especially one with our cap limitations, can afford to pay a cornerback the way Revis wants to be paid.
I can see offering Revis $10M/yr for 2014 and 2015 then $20M/yr for 2016 and 2017. The avg would be $15M/yr but I'd want some limitations on the guaranteed part. If he re-injures the same knee and goes on IR he loses 80% of his remaining pay for that year.
Because once it becomes clear that Revis actually is seeking to be the highest paid defensive player in football and on par with what good QB's are making the Jets decision to part ways with him becomes not only defensible but really the only way to go. As soon as we hear the words $16M a year out of Revis side the question is no longer "can the Jets keep Revis?" but instead becomes "how do the Jets manage his departure in a way that does the least harm?" It's not in the Jets interest to publicize his demands because they'll likely have to work out a deal with somebody to take Revis off their hands. It's not in Revis interest to publicize his demands because that takes pressure off the Jets to actually sign him and increases the pressure for them to trade him in a suddenly declining market. So the way around that is to leak the numbers he's looking for in a way that can't be directly tied to him.
...and NOW the Jets might have a little leverage on the Niners. LOL!! Ouch. Percy Harvin Traded to Seattle.
It's just a guess but I think the market is in Tampa and Philly at this point. Both of them have better picks to make a deal with and the Eagles have Foles as a cheap sweetener.
Very possible. Just sayin Niners may be back in play after the Harvin deal. Ouch. That one hurts. At least it cost Seattle AT LEAST a 1st rounder.
I agree....and it's actually a 1, a 7, and a mid rounder next year. ...but regardless of what they gave up...the Niners now have to worry about Russell Wilson passing to Percy Harvin. Sigh.
I hadn't seen that, until I just looked it up. A contract distraction every year, and got that deal, what does that make Revis worth? Harvin is looking for Calvin Johnson money, LOL.
I still don't think the Niners go all in (huge package of picks)... ...but you just know they have to be thinking "ruh-roh" right now. Seattle was gonna be hard enough next year. Now they have Harvin? Jeez.
Damn, looks like the Niners are now out of the Revis trade talks. http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2013/03/11/ravens-trade-boldin-to-the-49ers-for-a-sixth-round-pick/ Acquired Boldin. Don't think they would be able to afford Boldin & Revis this season. Niners pull it off again, a 6th rounder is all they gave up.
Yup. This is kinda what I've been trying to say all along... Baalke will make these kinds of deals only when he's getting the better of it. Seattle trades a 1, a 7, and a mid rounder next year and gives Harvin a huge contract. SF says, OK, we'll take Boldin as our #2 WR for a 6 and half the price. Next.
I wouldn't say that. They likely won't resign Goldson. They didn't have to do any restructuring to get under the cap. If there is a trade to be had, they'll make it.
Salary cap move. Are the Ravens really better off with Flacco at a huge cap number moving forward but not having Boldin to throw too?
Flacco's cap number over the next three years is 7.5, 14, and 14.5 mill. The big cap hits kick in during the second half of the contract.
Obviously they thought his cap number was too high. Otherwise they'd just have paid the man, right? His contract was up this year. You think they were relishing negotiating a new deal with him after the Flacco deal got done?
