They'll restructure or cut Sione Pouha which will free up another $3M+. They'll probably also trade Antonio Cromartie, which will give them a large chunk of cap space. It's going to be tight but not razor-thin by any means. As long as they don't have to do restructures on Harris, D'Brick and Mangold the cap bind will loosen significantly next season and be handled by 2015. You always have to look at the long-term effects of the decisions you make. If the Jets don't keep Wayne Hunter last year they have $2M+ more on this years cap, as an example.
The changes are just beginning. Strap in those emotional seatbelts JetsNation - this should be one interesting ride.
Screw that, keep Cro, trade Mevis & re-sign Landry & Bell. Our secondary was top notch last season without Mevis, and we can use the extra cash along with picks to fill other needs.
I thought this was Gates' contract. Contract:4 yr(s) / $2,539,000 BASE SALARY/CAP HIT 2011 375,000/499,750 2012 465,000/465,000 2013 555,000/555,000 2014 645,000/645,000
I think the Jets are closer to $7 million under the cap with $6 million slotted for rookies. I believe the estimated cap is about $121 million. 2013 TOTALS----------CAP FIGURE Active Contracts--------114,566,931 Top 51 Contracts -------113,351,931 Dead Money-------------4,794,285 2012 Avail Cap Rollover---3,400,000 -------------------------114,746,216
Looks like 2-3 journeymen and the rest rookie picks and rookie FA's. Buckle up boys this could get ugly. Like early 90's Kotite ugly in 2013. Should be back in 2014.
It's important to remember that the rookie allocations aren't directly applied to the team salary cap. The Jets don't need 6M in cap space in order to sign rookies. That number is probably closer to $2M. The process is explained pretty well here: http://adamjt13.blogspot.com/2012/05/nfl-rookie-pool-and-salary-cap.html Also, there was a report today that said the cap would be bumped up by $1.4M to a little over $122M. Every little bit helps teams in cap trouble.
Good read. Thanks. so with a cap of about $122MM, and about $114MM under contract and about $2MM needed for rookies, the Jets have about $6MM for free agents. Of course this doesn't count any restructures or anymore cuts or trades. Still, it looks like pinching pennies.
Current WR under contract. Santonio Holmes Stephen Hill Jeremy Kerley Clyde Gates Emmanuel Arceneaux Royce Adams Vidal Hazelton Joe Collins Royce Pollard Titus Ryan
Besides Holmes and Kerley( who is vastly overrated by Jets fans) you just gave us a list of the whos who of nobodys.Holmes went down last year and look at the joke our WR core became,it will be the same again next year if we dont bring in some real talentat the posistion. There's no gurantee Hill will become anything
He will have to do something. Right now the only backup QB he has is Matt Simms..haha. I guess McElroy is still there but they listed him as a WR. This is scary when you consider after the cuts they are only about 6 million under. Is this what they hit the field with? http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html
Again, Pouha's salary and cap are very high, Tebow is still listed in that listing and he's got a real savings attached when he goes, there are other 4th and 5th year players who making well above early career minimums, etc. It's going to be a puzzle to put together but given the roster quality last season many of the people coming in will be better than the people leaving. There's some lift in the overall picture, it's just going to require some hard work to get there.
I'm not going to make this thread take a U-turn on what it's about, but if you didn't see Kerely step up to become a legitimate NFL receiver this year then you weren't paying attention.
Kerley is a good player, if Hill develops and/or we bring back Braylon Kerley will shine next year in the role he was meant to play- our 3rd option among WRs instead of the 1st option like he was most of last season.
