Rich Cimini wrote Austin Howard will command at least a 2nd round tender Salary-cap situation: Ferguson ($10.7 million) and Mangold ($9.1 million) have huge cap numbers, so they could be asked to do simple restructurings. Ferguson did it a year ago, so it's Mangold's turn. He's also due a $3 million roster bonus in the coming weeks. They need to clear some room for Howard, who will command at least a second-round tender ($2 million). http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/20687/positional-analysis-offensive-line-2 And here are the tenders for RFAs ... High tender is $2.879M (1st-Rd comp); Next is $2.023M (2nd-Rd comp); Then $1.323M (original draft rd). https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/291249914040684544 The Jets place a 2nd round tender on Howard. If another teams signs Howard to an offer sheet which the Jets don't want to or can't match, the Jets gets a 2nd round pick. Another team could offer Howard a rich deal which the Jets can't match. Take the pick.
Great move by the team. Sign up Howard relatively cheap, or if somebody else wants him, net their 2nd rounder. Win-win.
Assuming a team will take him. Trading mevi$ would then net you three Second rounders where you could get another tackle, but if you read the Sanchez really sux thread....Howard is the second coming of Woody.
This was kind of an obvious scenario. I truly hope no one offers him a contract. He played well, contrary to popular belief, and could improve considerably in his 2nd year as a starter. Edit: he is also a well documented story, so he shouldn't fly under the radar.
Simple effing math. We have a 2. Revis nets us a 2. According to the op if a team takes Howard, that's three. Maybe, second grade math (or English) would be less embarrassing than going out of your way to be unnecessarily insulting, because you don't agree with me.
He picked it up well at the end of the season, much faster than Moore ever did...I'd say keep. Moore took several seasons, though to be fair he transitioned from DT
Rofl, Cmon now that wasnt insulting. I think youve read my previous posts and know what insulting looks like.
2nd round is a high tender for Howard but I think the Jets did the right thing by erring on the side of continuity on the offensive line. The downside is that they now have to pay him 2+ million for the year if they cannot reach an agreement but it is a small downside compared to having a vacant RT slot going into the draft.
I'm really glad this Hobbesism isn't the Jets GM. He must be related to the Indians that sold Manhattan Island for a bunch of beads. I believe every team in the NFL would gladly surrender a #2 for Revis even if it's for a one year rental.
Name three. ( especially under the new salary scale) A two time holdout, looking for 16 mil a year, with one year left at 6 mil. This ain't madden. There are a couple teams (Sf) that got close enough where one year cou,d help them. Maybe you cou,d tell the class who ficked up the salary scale for that position, allowing the Jets to get F@@@ over, by this guy... Then maybe you cou,d tell us what team you would be GM of, and what compensation you would pay fr the trade....? Just curious... Pick a team, you're the GM...what do you trade for Revis...,?
Im keeping Austin Howard over a second round pick, RT's dont grow on trees and he looks like he is a huge upgrade over Hunter. Unless theres a stud RT in the second round it wouldnt make sense to do it would just give us another hole to fill in our swiss cheese like roster
