Well, this is my last check in before the Sunday kickoff. Let's go J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets! One thing I'll be looking for is a Mawae versus Ellis scuffle. Seemed like every week in training camps past, you'd read some tidbit about these two getting at each other. Now, no longer teamates and facing off in a real game, I'm sure the bad blood will spill over. Agree?
Interesting. Not sure why original poster didn't note this position disparity. Unless he was thinking that Mawae may meet up with Ellis on a sweep.
...Right, because Mawae never pulls out and sweeps around the end (thus running into a chap like Ellis). The only guys a center ever blocks are the tackles....thanks for that comprehensive football insight...
Or Ellis can pull a stunt...Ball is snapped and him and lets say DRob cross eachother while they're in a 3-4 and Ellis meets up with Mawae...
RIght....he's making it seem like they will go one-on-one every play. They will meet up 5 times max. I also dont think Mawae will be pulling anymore.
Well the Titans will struggle, because Mawae's weakness is blowing people off the line clean. Reason our line sucked against KC, Miami and Jacksonville is because we couldn't push up the middle. Not a knock on Mawae, but he's not a blow you off the line type of lineman. Thats why the knock on us was always our struggle with the 3-4 defense. We had an athletic pulling line and we couldn't do that without the use of a good blocking tightend.
Mawae versus any defender is going to be mean and spiteful. Defenses and offenses on the same team are historically unkind to each other. I'm sure there is no love lost between most of the Jets holdover defenders and the former dirtiest O-lineman of the AFCE. I even saw a comment made by Vilma about Mawae to the tone of "he sure 'helped us out' by holding a lot in practice."
i think no matter how big any of the media wannabe's here wanna make this so called issue, its going to be nothing more than the jets looking to win and mawae looking to win by showing up his former team, period the end.
Like many others have stated before me, ends do go against centers sometimes. Also, I think the original poster wasn't really talking about the matchup of Ellis vs. Mawae, but more of whether the two will get in a fight, because they always used to during training camp.
