I don't think Revis is controlled by his agents. I think they are controlled by him and that he has picked guys that will fight for him every step of the way. That's an admirable stance for an NFL athlete to take, since they're essentially giving away their future health for whatever return they can get now. I'm a Jet fan though and as much as I admire Darrelle Revis abilities, and I do, I also need the Jets to do the things that are most likely to create a championship window and signing a CB to a huge contract is not on that list.
True, but the Jets have always had problems keeping things in house, though the Giants do too. It's the NY media, they very good in getting the scope. Though Jason La Confora is one of the best NFL insiders in the business
This makes me incredibly sad, but I can't deny that this is probably the most logical decision, barring some sort of cap miracle happening where we can afford him and not put our cap into a deeper level of hell.

You're missing the point. From the player's perspective, he needs to get as much money as he can before his career ends (like it almost did). He is the best CB in the NFL and needs to get paid accordingly. That's what his agent is for. He doesn't share the same sentimentality for the Jets as a fan does.
I tend to agree with this. to my knowledge, John Geiger's only client is Revis. he makes all his money off him. I could be all wrong, but it's just a theory.

Revis' agent is Neil Schwartz, not Geiger... Geiger is just a friend of his but Schwartz, on the other hand, had a bad history with Mike Tannenbaum and the Jets (Pete Kendall, and I believe someone else before Revis)
yes you are right, my bad. Geiger refers to himself as Revis' business/marketing manager. so Ijust got it mixed up.
This will suck, and there is no way around it. His injury and contract situation puts a damper on his trade value right now. We aren't going to get equal value out of this, anyway you slice it. What I suggest is that we hold off on trading him in the offseason. Let him come to camp, prove that he is healthy, and then trade him in season, where a team might know that they are an elite CB away from competing. It's not like we want to go gun-ho on this draft, it's the 2014 draft that we should be aiming for anyway. Picks are pretty much the only commodity that is going to come back, because teams are not going to fill one hole while opening another hole, unless they have a stud waiting around. Best case scenario? 2014 first and 3rd pick. But I also ask the question. What if Bellichek puts forth the Godfather offer? first this year and next, Mallet, and and second and 4th rd pick next year? From their standpoint, they are essentially a good defense away from competing. Revis plus Talib accomplishes rebuilding that, and they also have to know that the time frame with Brady is dwindling down. But that's a pipe dream I guess, and not even sure I do it, just because of who they are. My best hope is Dallas, with Jerry becoming obsessed with Revis.
This is pure, unadulterated fantasy. Realistic figure is that a 2013 #1 and a #3 is the highest offer anyone will present. As many other posters here mentioned, it maybe a 1 year rental, for someone who's going to be at least 1/8 of you cap.
$14m minimum. No way Revis wants to stay anything near Bailey's avg/yr. As a Pats fan: 1) Hope Jets keep him in 2013 and watch him leave with no compensation 2) Hope Jets keep him and sign to a $14m/year for 5 years with over $35m guaranteed, which means a) Cromatie is soon gone b) no additional picks GM desperately needs and c) too much $ invested in a non-QB position to fill the numerous positions that need to be filled/upgraded.
Revis wants to get paid. If the Jets keep him, you will overpay. Jets need to put a value on the worth of Revis. If he asks more than that, get compensation.
