I wouldn't say average. Just a bit above. Probably an 800 yards a year type receiver. Good short distance third down kinda guy. He is a good slot receiver but you need A true number 1 or 2 to go with Holmes. Right now Hill is pretty bad. Edwards is also pretty bad and is incredibly slow compared to 09 and 10.
We do need a #1 play making Receiver... Some one who actually scares Db's... I'm tired of Holmes it's about me attitude and dropping the ball after every first down or looking for the ref to call a pass interference if he drops the ball. Come back to the huddle line up and lets go he waste valuable time with his egotistical acts. I think there is alot of talent in he draft at WR
Dude Edwards isn't gonna cut it in a West Coast offense, Personally i hate the West Coast offense it worked well in the 70's and 80's it isn't as succesfull anymore. And the new GM isn't gonna want Edwards on the team after he was already cut by his former team the Seahawks
Thread should have ended right here. For two reasons. 1.) We're a run heavy team. Always have been. Its no coincidence that our success died with TJ and LT. The three backs on our roster are all avg rotational guys at best. Really, I think they're scrubs. 2.) Hill's gonna have a breakout year. Don't worry. 3.) The receivers in this draft class are lightweights. Who's the 1? Justin Hunter? DeAndre Hopkins? At 9? Nah... Meanwhile the RBs are stacked, and since nobody bothers taking RBs in the first anymore, that gives us some room to fuck around. Still think Mingo's the obvious choice at 1. Can't deal with another year of Calvin Pace. OT second round, Ray Graham third. I love that.
It's not as big of a need as the media portrays. Holmes, Edwards, Hill, Kerley are a solid 4 WR's if you have a decent QB. The problem is the QB, not the "weapons." That being said, given Edwards won't be here long term, I'd still like to grab a WR in the 2nd-3rd round like Robert Woods or DarRick Rodgers. Cordarelle Patterson would be nice too but have a feeling he's going in the first.
Holmes, Edwards, Hill, and Kerley are not a solid 4, much less a great 4. The group is effective enough to hold the fort but it is lacking a genuine number 1 and contains health and character issues with the current 1/2. Ideally in the future Hill will be the 2. We still need our future 1, and someone who is dynamic at that. Looking into next year we can accept the above four, but do you really want them to get stagnant the way the Jets linebackers did? Jets still need to think forward and draft a WR.
Defiantly if we run WCO we need a #1 receiver. #1 WR - Who ever(Dwyane Bowe,Mike Wallace ect.) #2 WR - Holmes Slot - Kerley #4 - Hill really dont know were you would fit Edwards in at.. i would really want him back on the team but i dont see it.
Pretty much. TE/WR/RB/QB are all in need of upgrades. There's multiple weak links on the OL also. It's not a reach to point to any aspect of this offense & declare an upgrade is needed.
I think the problem is the QB, not the WR corps. Mark Sanchez is just pitiful. You could give Sanchez the Pats weapons - Gronk, Hernandez, Welker, Lloyd, Vereen, etc - and he would still be a bottom 5 QB in the league. I like Hill as the potential #2, yes he's raw, but so was Demaryius Thomas when he first came out. Hill has all the tools to be a very good player in this league. You re-sign Braylon to be the de-facto #2 and hope Hill progresses/develops and eventually passes him at sometime during 2013. Kerley is a pretty good slot WR IMO. I like what I've seen from him. I think with a better QB, Holmes is a #1 WR. He is excellent at getting open vs man coverage and just makes big time plays when the game is on the line. He's not your prototype 6'4 Calvin Johnson/Andre Johnson/Larry Fitzgerald type of #1 WR, he's more of the Greg Jennings type of #1 WR. It'd be nice to add another young WR in round 2 or 3 if someone is there, but I think there are bigger issues on this team. LB is an absolute need, especially OLB and potentially ILB if Demario Davis is not the answer. We will likely also need a TE with Keller gone. Right tackle has to be upgraded, and we could definitely use a guard to replace Slauson/Ducasse. And if Landry gets away, all of a sudden safety isn't looking so great either with a 35 year old Bell and Allen/Bush.
Holmes has gotta go... Hope someone takes a flyer on him and sends us a late pick... I want Cordarrelle Patterson with our 2nd round pick... hope he is still there!
Good post. But the problem has been coaching. Hill will be a 1,Holmes a2, Kerley in the Slot, with Edwards as a 4
He may be a tad faster but can you really see him being fast enough to blow by DBs for Tds like he was 3 years ago? Its a huge question mark at this point, due to the 2 knee surgeries and now his age. Its certainly worth a flyer if we can get him at vet minimum or close to it, but the people who are expecting the Braylon of old are going to be disappointed. The team still needs a #1 receiver, but i dont even know if we can even get one in this draft.
We need a #1 Receiver bottom line.... Even if we get a #1 Talent in the 2nd Round we need to upgrade. Austin, Bailey, Hopkins, Terrance Williams, Da'Rick Rogers, Patterson.... We got players who dont scare anybody and all could be covered one on one which is a good thing if they were an explosive weapon but when your just avg you just get covered by one guy and it can lead to more blitzing from defenses. 1.Warmack 2.Any of those WR's who are still on the board and available 2.Lacy 3.Chase Thomas After those rounds just try to grab another OL and then shore up the Defense
