Now, the salary cap has been estimated by various sources, including NFL.com, to come in at approximately $121 million for 2013. So how much cap space will the Dolphins have? Well, you have to add approximately $1.6 million in dead money to the Dolphins total to bring it to $76,660,751. That tells you the Dolphins will have $44,340,000 for next year. But there are other machinations. The club will sign perhaps 7-9 players to future contracts within days after the season. That will take up approximately $2.5-$3.3 million of space. So we're down to around $41,840,000 of available cap space for 2013. The team also has approximately $5 in unused cap space from this year. It can elect to carry over that cap space and use it next year (as most teams do) or not. If the Dolphins carry over their space -- and I stress that most teams do -- they'd be at approximately $46,840,000 in available salary cap space for next season -- give or take $1 million. Use that as the working figure for available cap space in 2013 as the Dolphins enter free agency. Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...n-for-the-dolphins-and-the.html#storylink=cpy
Sounds good. Of course we still hafta sign the rookies and we have extra 2nd and 3rd rounders. This leaves us plenty of money to sign Bush, Starks and Long if we want and still go after some top free agents. I just hope Ireland is up to the task and doesn't fuck it up.
lol if he takes a friendly if not he can hit the road and I'm certainly not franchising him for 15 million. Starks is a maybe depending on how much he wants Odrick has looked good as a DT when placed there.
So..... Given the teams track record, what over-hyped free agent bust do you think that they will splurge on?
Yeah Long hasn't been playing like a top 5 LT in the league here lately and will command that type of money. Plus he can't stay healthy. I hate to spend another early round draft pick on an olineman though.
it fucking pains me to see the dolphins headed in the right direction and the jets going in the wrong direction. to think the dolfags could end up 8-8 and the jets 6-10 is just fucking painful. then to throw the fact that we have terrible players who are guaranteed so much money and the dollfags have a ton of cap space. ugh fuck me
You act like we've never hit on them but I guarantee they will contribute more more than the scrubs the jets will be bringing in with the cap space
Randy Starks was a great under the radar FA pickup. Kevin Burnett has been solid. Matt Moore. Dansby. Wake. Incognito. Reggie Bush if we're counting trades Nothing real flashy though. You are right, the Phins have had a lot of disappointing FAs over the years. Hopefully Ireland has learned from his mistakes and drafting for Philbin's philosophy is easier than drafting for ground and pound Sparano
I meant flashy as in like a big name free agent we got that produced for us. Wake was relatively unknown when we got him. Obviously, Wake is a stud. And Dansby was pretty flashy I guess. He has helped us limit tight ends since he has been here. We used to get gutted, thanks to Yeremiah Bell. LOL
which reminds me thank god we let that guy go who couldn't cover to save his life, reshad jones is a beast :metal: Also pretty impressed with burnett this year.
5 of the top 100 draft picks too... Plus all this money... Hopefully our fucking idiot GM gets some playmakers (Especially on offense)...
