The fat man on the radio made a good point today when he talked about this not being a good year for the Jets to do a total house cleaning. There's going to be like 10 or 11 teams competing for new head coaches and gm's. I still think Tannenbaum is either fired or reassigned. Oh wait, Fatty is now saying Mistah T should be retained at least for one more season. Ewww. Says either clean house entirely or stay at least one more season with present regime.
Recent talk is Woody is keeping Sanchez, Rex and Tanny who will be reassigned to another role and a new GM will be hired to take his place. Part of the reason given is they're all guaranteed money. I don't like it but what can you do? As far as the 10 teams competing. That doesn't matter. Besides if all the best candidates sign up with 10 other teams then who will be left next year? Jets afraid they can't compete with the worst teams in the NFL for a GM?
Well that's obvious. He needs at least one local team he doesn't root for to be the butt of his bad jokes. The Mets at least are trying to rebuild the right way so it's hard for him to make fun of them. The Knicks are doing well and nobody cares about the Nets. So that leaves the Jets...
I think fatty's on the $ here. You either fire both the HC & the GM or you leave them both in place and tell them the better straighten out the mess they made or they're out the door TOGETHER. No top flight GM candidate is going to want this job if he won't have complete authority to shape this team in his wn image, and that starts with the HC. The only way I see a possibility is telling the candidates for the GM job he wants 2013 to be an assessment year for the team as a whole and let him know that he's got carte blanche to make any and all changes he wants after that. I'm not even sure if that would work.
The guaranteed money is what will keep everything intact for one more season. Because of that, the 2014 off season is what matters most. Next year we really need to suck, get a good draft pick then dump everyone.
I agree with this. The only thing that worries me is Tannenbaum because he can wreck the future with bad contracts and bad draft picks. It doesn't bother me keeping Rex for one more season because players can adjust to a new head coach the following season. But if Tannenbaum is trying to save his job, then he might draft and sign players for the now and not the future. That's a problem.
He needs to cheer up the Giants fans so you know he's going to be brutal towards the Jets until pitchers and catchers report. Then he'll pick on the new Mets catcher during spring training for not blocking a ball in the dirt.
