I like this idea! He'd get to fire Sparano twice in 2 years!

I think you're focusing on the "dolphins" thing too much...the important thing is Brian learned under Parcells, followed him to three teams, know his core values and fundamentals.

If Woody is willing to give a guy with real qualifications the latitude that a GM normally has to conduct business I'm pretty sure he'll draw some interesting candidates and likely come away with better than we've had in 30 years or so.

If Woody is not willing to bring somebody in to run the team with him, including hiring most of the other front office people then he's going to have trouble finding good candidates.

The new GM doesn't have to hire the coach or the coaching staff. He just has to have an understanding with Woody that in that situation he is not responsible for the coach or coaching staff.

The Steelers Director of Football Operations does not hire the coach or his staff. The Rooneys do that. When a change needs to be made in the coaching staff it doesn't reflect on the DoFA because that coach and the staff are not his reponsibility. If the talent sucks and that's why the coach is getting the boot, well then that's the DoFA's responsibility and maybe he gets the boot instead.

An NFL team does not have to be an Owner-GM-Head Coach hierarchy. In fact the Steelers arrangement of Owner-GM/Owner-Head Coach makes more sense from a long-term stability point of view. Why lose both operational heads because one of them has primarily failed?

Cimini is mentioning Joey c. as a possibility now. As I said last week, if Woody's looking for a guy who would work with Rex and Tanny this might be his man.

That's not a recent thing, that kind of thing comes from ownership.

What needs to happen here is to model the organizational patience of those franchises.....

All that really needs to happen is for ownership to spend on professional Offensive coaching.....and restrain trader Mike from pissing away draft picks.

No, no and no. We need either a proven GM or a young up and coming talent evaluator from one of the more successful organizations in the league. This guy is neither. Pass.
