What to do with Sanchez next year?

  1. Stick it out with Sanchez in 2013 and release him in 2014? $4.8mil dead money in 2014.

    7.3%
  2. Cut him and take on the $17plus mil dead money? Note: Zero dead money for 2014.

    33.9%
  3. Keep him and draft a QB in the first and let him get accustomed to NFL speed for a year?

    12.9%
  4. Keep him as a backup and sign a veteran FA (or trade for one) to start?

    19.4%
  5. Keep him and let Tebow start?

    4.0%
  6. Keep him and let McElroy start?

    22.6%

I voted for the first one because as fans it's easy for us to say cut him but from a buisness standpoint you can't take that hit it's just to big . If we cut Sanchez this offseason we will have huge cap problems and we won't be able to make any kind of signings . We need to find someone keep Sanchez as the backup and bring in like a Jason Campbell type or someone like that to compete for the job in training camp, and Cut him in the 2014 offseason unless he has some kind of miraculous turn around

Nonsense Peter Carroll sat Flynn's 10 million dollar arse on the bench and started his third string QB, he's going to the playoffs and Wilson is one of the biggest QB surprises of the season. Harbaugh sat Smith with a 104 rating on the bench and went with Kapernick. THAT'S leadership.

Rex could've sat Sanchez 5 games ago no problem, season on the line and Rex just rides that sinking ship to the ground. Rex is great on defense but has zero pulse of the offense.

You don't just sink an entire season because you're paying someone 8.5 million. How much you think the Jets lose starting out 1-6 with Sanchez playing in 2013?

I'm watching these last two games only because I want to see how Rex coaches and how this team responds when playing out the string.

  6. Elminate the self inflicted wounds. We can't even begin to talk about fielding a productive offense until we eliminate this aura of incompetence . Enough of Sanchez's turnovers, the wildcat, confusing personnel groupings.. you wanna ground & pound? Come out in an jumbo I & pound the rock.

This defense is good enough to carry this team...it just can't have an offense that is an outright liability.Bring in a game manager for QB...find one elite level offensive skill guy who can give you 2-3 big plays a game, continue to invest in the trenches..and we'll see what happens.

Talk to me when we get a new GM, OC and offensive scouting department. This reek of shit won't end with benching Sanchez.

we can't make decisions based on what our moronic fans think, there's a reason we are all fans and those guys get paid well to make those decisions. Giant fans desperately wanted Coughlin and Eli gone before they won the SB a few years ago. Did the Giants FO listen? of course not. I am NOT saying if we stick w/ them we win a SB but the point is you don't make decisions based on whiny fans.

Trading or cutting him gives us a huge cap hit, we can't do it even if we want to.

i think we can assume drew stanton won't come here again.

as far as what to do. he has to stay. there is just no way we can take that cap hit. ironically, keeping him is the best way to improve the entire team

Let me rephrase it. If Sanchez comes on the field and lines up under center the backlash is going to be loud and severe. Sanchez already has issues with confidence. With the highly toxic crowd his chance for playing at a satisfactory level is slim.

Are you actually comparing Wilson and Kapernick to what the Jets have behind Sanchez? They are both great athletes with pro arms something neither Tebow or Mcelroy have.

Sanchez will definitely not get cut. Traded maybe but still doubtful. Let Tebow or McElroy play these last two games and see what they can do. I can't believe Rex is ignorant to the success the 49ers are having by benching Alex Smith and the Redskins by playing Cousins. You have more than one QB so use them when one is sucking!

If I am not mistaken keeping him also ignites guarenteed money in 2014 at about 5 mil. I certainly understand the argument about the cap hit but can you honestly see him taking another snap at Met Life? By cutting him now, my understanding is the cap hit is 17 mil but is absorbed in one season. Cutting Scott and Pace gives you about 15 mil of that. I am not a cap expert but this is something I would think they explore.

Went with option #1. Not because it is what I want to happen but it's the most logical choice. I think they will trade Tebow in the offseason for a pick. Put greater focus on the offense this offseason and go into next year with Sanchez as the starter but on a short leash. If (when?) he falters they replace him with McElroy or some other cheap option (they won't go sign a big name guy because of the cap issues it will create) and then cut him in the 2014 offseason and draft a new QB if McElroy isn't capable of handling the offense.

Heard on the way in (on Mike and Mike) that Sanchez has a $17 million cap hit next year even if he is cut. Is this correct?

suckchez is getting paid no matter what. I'm assuming he is untradeable (this would be best outcome). I would keep him as a backup for 2013. See if you can win with McElroy. Draft a developmental guy. A less palatable option would be to sign a retread like Jason Campbell or Matt Moore. Either way, I would be very against that POS suckchez EVER taking another snap as starting QB for the NYJ.
