It is winning percentage, but it's much easier to wrap your head around it when you think of it in terms of wins by the teams you beat. Every team in the league plays exactly 16 games, so the SOV winning percentage is going to be:

(number of wins by teams you beat + .5 * number of ties by teams you beat)/ (16 * 9)

The denominator will be the same at the end of the season for both teams at 9-7. By the way, Buffalo will count double in this scenario since we'll have beaten them twice, so in this scenario, wins for Buffalo are especially important to the Jets.

    GODDAMN LIONS!!!
HTF can you lose that game???

I'm telling you guys ... at the end of the day, if we don't get in at 9-7, that game will be the reason why.

Don't worry, the Colts will completely collapse. I can feel it.

True, but it is very possible if the results go the Jets way in these next two weeks. With a Bengal loss and a Jet win this week even if all the SOV games effecting both teams this week went the way of the Bengals and against the Jets the SOV would be Cincy at 37-61 and the Jets at 36-61-1. For all practical purposes the Jets will still be ahead by at least a couple of games heading into Week 16. Flip the results of the games below and you would get the above mentioned SOV record.

For SOV purposes the Jets would like these results this week:

Atlanta over the Giants. Weakens Cincy's SOV.

Miami over Jax. Jets beat Miami, both teams beat Jax. It's a wash for the Jets SOV since they beat both teams. However, a Jax win improves Cincy's SOV.

Arizona over Detroit. Improves Jets SOV.

St. Louis over Minnesota. Improves Jets SOV

Buffalo over Seattle. Improves Jets SOV

Results of this weeks game that will effect future SOV.

Denver over Baltimore. Weakens Cincy's SOV just in case they beat the Ravens in Week 17.

Dallas over Pittsburgh. For obvious reasons to overtake the Steelers as well as SOV in case Cincy beats the Steelers in Week 16.

Houston over Indy. However, if Indy wins it does help the Jets SOV so root for them to keep winning if the Colts do win this week.

With the emotional lift that Chuck Pagano is going to give them in Week 17?

I'm less sure. I think they could even split the Texans series and finish with 11 wins.

The Colts beat the Lions...even though they were down by two scores.

I don't know how much longer Luck and his team can ride off the emotional high. I personally think the Texans will send them crashing down both times.

In reality, all we really need is for KC to get their heads out of their asses and beat Indy. Do that, and the AFC North doesn't matter at all.

We're a joke of a team, completely inept, and you're going to blame the Lions for missing the playoffs?

If we don't get in at 9-7, it sure as hell isn't because of the Lions.

I think Texas will go out and beat the crap out of them on Sunday and really put them in their place. After that they will go up to KC shell shocked in a must win road game in December knowing that the Texans are still fighting for a #1 seed and they will have very little chance to beat them in week 17.

What no dates and times? How can I send out my jeers and cheers out to the universe without knowing when.

    Great thread idea btw.

If we finish 9-7 it's hard to stick to the "we're a joke of a team, completely inept" line of thinking. Especially if we miss the playoffs on a tie breaker and when you factor in we were without Holmes and Revis simultaneously for like 80% of the season, not to mention all the other injuries because all teams face injuries but most don't lose their top target WR and best defensive player for the entire season at the same time on top of all the other injuries we had.

If the Colts finish 10-6 and we finish 9-7, then yes, it's EXACTLY because of that game with the Lions. That was a game they should have been able to close out, but they failed. I'm not saying the Jets don't create their own destiny, but that is definitely a factor considering where we are now.

If we get to 9 wins, and get pushed out by a 10 win Colt team that we destroyed by 30 points ... then YES ... I'll be blaming the Lions for finding a way to give up 14 points at HOME, in the last 2:30 ... including an 85 yard drive, followed by 75 yard drive with a minute left and no timeouts.

    Completely ridiculous.

I really doubt we finish 9-7. But if we do, I'll still think this team is inept because I've watched enough of this garbage the past 14 weeks to know we don't belong anywhere near the playoffs.

I want the Jets to make the playoffs. But not because it'll make me proud of them or because I think they'd have any chance once they're in, but because it would be the funniest damn shit I have ever seen. That a team this dysfunctional, this abysmal, this boring, this disgustingly bad actually makes the playoffs would be hilarious.

You're going to blame the Lions but you're not going to blame the Jets, who have been an embarrassment this season.

Disgustingly bad teams don't go 9-7...

If anything, you can call the Steelers a bad team. Especially since for us to get in, they would have to completely collapse after starting out 6-3.

Almost every team in the league has had blow out losses. Houston (the current 1 seed) had their second primetime blowout in the season.

I agree that I don't think they will go anywhere if they are in the playoffs and it would be pretty funny. That is still a very large if, though. Some people are acting like it's destiny for us to make it, but there are a bunch of obstacles in the way, least of all us having to win out the rest of the season.

That being said, I want them to make the playoffs to indicate to us, the fans, how far away this team is. If they can make the playoffs even if they get trounced in the first game I think that still speaks a lot to what they have considering how bad they were for stretches at a time and considering they were without key impact players for the majority of the season.

If they can make the playoffs without Holmes and Revis and with Sanchez playing below par by his standards (which is even further below par than a good QB) then how far away can we be from doing damage in the playoffs? Can we just make a few tweaks here and there or do we need a complete overhaul?
