Making the playoffs is likely a pipe dream. The Jets lose the head to head battle with Steelers so they need the Steelers to lose 2 of final 3 while they win out. Its possible for Steelers to lose 2 but that means they likely lose to Bengals who are a game up on Jets. That means the Bengals need to lose to either Philly or Baltimore and Jets win out to just to tie their record. The Baltimore game only means something to Ravens if they beat Denver this week otherwise they have no shot at a bye. If Ravens/Bengals is a meaningless game and Bengals beat them but lose to Philly while Jets win out then the tiebreaker likely falls to strength of victory in which case jets lose out to Bengals. The only realistic shot for the Jets is for them to win out and have the Ravens beat Denver, Pittsburgh lose 2 (including to the Bengals) and for the Bengals to lose to Baltimore so they get a 6th div loss compared to 5 for Jets. Stranger things have happened but I wouldn't count on it. The loss to the fish was the final nail in their coffin.
It only looked bad by his reaction on the ground. Didnt see either of his knees bend on the way down like revis. Honestly thought he was faking when I first saw it.
Hopefully this is like 04 when we needed like 8 games to go our way and everyone obliged....including Miami winning in Minnesota so it was a three way tie for the division and we somehow got the edge with the tiebreaker situation. Think it was 04.....
That was in '02. Yes alot of things broke the Jets way starting with the Pats losing to Tenn (I think) on MNF. Then the following week Miami lost at Minny in an upset, due in part to a dropped TD pass and then a long FG by Gary Anderson. Then that night the Jets beat NE in Foxboro on SNF. Then in week 17 NE beat Miami and the Jets knocked off GB for the divison title at 9-7.
The Gary Anderson field goal in Minnesota to beat the Fish was one of the weirdest kicks I've ever seen. Anserson was already like 42-43 at the time and had an accurate but weak leg. Even on turf 53 yards was already out of his range. Yet he drills this side-winding missile that travels about 3 feet off the ground and through the upright The Dolphins/Patriot game was given up on by most of the Jet fans in the parking lot that day. Everybody was tuning in to Browns/Falcons. If the Browns lost we would've gotten in, that was a competitive game...Miami was running all over NE with Ricky Williams. Nobody saw that late Patriot surge happen. The 2002 Patriots team was really nothing special and even though they were coming off a SB win...they were very beatable and seen as something of a fluke. Even we went up there with stinkin Herm as coach and won
In 04 all we needed was to either beat the Rams in St. Louis or the Bills to lose to Pittsburgh (meaningless game for Pitt) Bills somehow choke to the Steelers who were playing 3rd stringers. We were in OT against the Rams and that game became meaningless to us. We would end up playing in OT the next week in SD (winning) then OT in Pittsburgh (losing) becoming the 1st team in NFL history to play 3 straight OT games. We were just destroyed with nothing in the tank during that Pittsburgh debacle
Not that bad: Jets rookie WR Stephen Hill has been diagnosed with a strained right LCL, and will be "evaluated later in week." It's the same injury Robert Griffin III has. Unlike RGIII, however, Hill is unlikely to be rushed back. For now, he should be considered doubtful for Week 15. Hill has just 56 receiving yards across his past five games.
Yeah that's what I remember the most the kick itself....you're right instead of rotating end over end it kind of rotated side over side like a weak spiral and then kind of stopped spinning altogether landing about a yard over the crossbar. It kind of swerved side to side...kind of hilarious how a kick like that - and then the blown lead the following week - wound up keeping Miami out of the playoffs....
Well, that's some good news. He might not be back this season, but at least we can count on him for training camp.
Ryan on ESPN today said the reason they didn't throw as much was because after hill got hurt they only had 3 receivers and only 2 were familiar with the offense. Ummm seriously???
That sounds about Right. We went into the game with Hill, Kerley, Schillens adn Gillyard. Once hill went down that left Kerley and Schillens as the only two that would know the entire playbook for a 3 wide set.
Really sad. This is when young guys thrive. He'd also be huge in the Tenn game. The dont have corners like that.
This is why I have been pushing for us to play all youth for weeks and, if necessary, throw the damn games. We were eliminated all but mathematically weeks ago. Moreover, even if this miracle were to occur I have no faith we make it past the WC. So why not use this time to get the max experience for all of the young players, experiment, try players from other practice squads, and so on. It would suck having a bad year, but it would be equally freeing in that so much of the season COULD have been used to find more talent AND we would likely have ended up with a much better draft position for the future. (let's not even get into cap ramifications which might have had some positive effect.)
Paging T.O. Paging T.O. The Jets have left you a message about your future in the NFL. It reads: "We are in desperate need of ANY loser who can play wideout anywhere near the level of an NFL caliber player. Do you know any? If so, we will gladly give you a finders fee. Oh, and before we forget, you don't count, but thanks. -The Jets"
Lol @ T.O. He is famous for dropping balls, running poor routes, and not knowing the play book when he has had a full season with a team. This guy is done done done.
