The people with a microphone were 95% negative against him as a QB in the NFL. How many in the sports media can you name, other than Skip Bayless, who have been consistently pro-Tebow in their viewpoint since before he even entered the draft?

Of course there was a lot of polarization amongst fans, but they're not the ones with the microphone. And I know why he was so polarizing among fans, that's no mystery. The Tim Tebow detractors have been around since long before he ever took a snap in the NFL, and they generally fall into two camps: fans of a team that he whooped up on in college (in some cases, year after year); and those whose feelings range anywhere from uncomfortable to despisement to seething hate of his unashamed Christianity and example of strong moral character and integrity. Sure, a lot of detractors wrapped their Tebow dislike in terms of his "football" prowess, but at that time no one knew he would be struggling with inconsistent accuracy his first 16 starts in the NFL. They also didn't know he would lead his team to the playoffs. Never has such an accomplished college QB been so thoroughly and completely vilified by the sports media before he ever was even drafted, and it's not even close.

Tebow has always had his ardent fans, but we/they were perfectly content to see him pass or fail his test in the NFL so long as he got a chance. The fact that so many in the media and also detractors among the fan populace had written his NFL obituary before he ever took his first snap in the NFL, though, is what caused what you refer to as "Tebowmania". Ask any ardent Tebow supporter on this forum if there is any truth to this idea and I'll bet your right nut they'll say that, speaking for themselves, it's 100% true.

If you're talking about the big shots at ESPN, the NFL analysts, then that is true, most of them were critical. After all, most of the time, they know a dud when they see one.

But the local networks, many radio hosts around the country, and the reporters out there were gushing over the guy.

He had plenty of fanfare and hype coming in that he was something special. ...and no, it wasn't because it was in response some meanies at the NFL network were picking on him. People bought into all that hooplah, loved what he was all about, and invested heavily into him emotionally.

I get that people had high expectations and really wanted to see him succeed.... but he still sucks.

I do kinda feel for those that bought in to the hype and went all in for #15 jerseys for the entire family. Wonder what those will be worth in a couple years...

hahahaha. Thanks for the laugh. Can't even keep count of all the times Mel Kiper Jr. and Merril Hoge - two of the biggest Tebow haters in the media - have gotten it wrong on various players, including Tebow.

Just how many different radio hosts "around the country" do you listen to anyway? Seriously....? The ESPN radio hosts were unanimously against him. The Denver radio guys (who I listened to on-line a lot) were overwhelmingly against him before he even arrived in Denver after being drafted! The Ohio ESPN local radio hosts I listen to near where I live were overwhelmingly negative towards him. I can't think of a single ESPN tv celebrity or ESPN radio host who was consistently a Tebow backer since before he was even drafted, except Skip Bayless. And guess who was the only one of those guys to also nail Tebow's regular season W-L record once he was named the starter in Denver last year? Yep, Skip Bayless.

What were they wrong about regarding Tebow. They didn't think much of him, and currently he's sitting on the bench behind another shitty QB, probably heading to a third team next year to sit on the bench behind yet another shitty QB when THAT team sees him throw in person.

His career is sinking, and you're gonna laugh at them telling me how wrong they were?

...and Skip Bayless is an idiot. He was right abotu the record in SPITE of his myopia. Don't know how you missed all that hype surrounding Tebow. ...and actually deny it exhisted. You don't by chance live in a cave, do you?

Can't run on NFL defenses, doesn't have a strong arm, can't win games as a starter in the NFL, can't lead a team to the playoffs, can't win a playoff game....shall I continue?

Well I guess he's one lucky idiot then to have nailed it on the nose. Maybe it's because he sees something in Tebow you don't, but I'm sure you never considered that. After all, you don't give a flip about anything but completion % and passing yards.

By the way, Skip has been a Tebow fan since he led Florida to a victory against Skip's favorite Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS championship. But he didn't really start ramping up his support of Tebow and being very vocal about it until the nattering nabobs of negativism were out in full force on ESPN against Tebow even before the draft. Every action has a RE-action. Skip's strongly vocal support of Tebow was not the action, it was the RE-action. Believe it or not, I don't care, it's the truth.

amazing thing is.. Tebow is the only QB ever accused of those things!

Oh wait.. no he isnt! He is the only one that has fans making a big deal out of it.

Pretty much every fucking QB ever drafted gets shit from the pundits. Brady did, brees, et al ... the only difference is they didnt have legions of psycho's calling people names for being super big meanies to the anointed one.

    ITS YOU thats the problem.

How hard is that to comprehend?

Never use Skip Bayless as a positive example. He is a clown on all issues. He basically just takes the flip side of every argument so he can stir things up, he has roughly the same in-depth sports knowledge as the girl the movie Nell was based on.

Gotcha. So, is that why when Cam Newton or RGIII or Andrew Luck or ANY OTHER NFL QB NOT NAMED TEBOW moves out of the pocket and starts running downfield, they get praised by the announcers and pundits for being "mobile" and being able to "extend plays with their legs" and "make things happen when the play breaks down"? Whereas, when Tebow does it they usually say he's going to have learn you can't do that in the NFL, he needs to stay in the pocket and go through his reads, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah ten tons of crap they never say about any other mobile QB (or NON-mobile QB, for that matter).

This is kind of stuff that keeps me talking about Tebow. It's really amazing how people will break their backs, bending over backwards trying to find ways to compliment new 1st round quarterbacks, while talking down at every turn about Tebow doing the same exact things.

95% of the time, the other quarterbacks are given the benefit of the doubt, or at least given a pass for being "young" quarterbacks. Not with Tebow. He's clearly crap because he wasn't perfect by year 2 of his nfl career. Other new quarterbacks are singlehandedly losing games for their teams, but they're the next great thing, right? I can't wait til Bradford stops sucking and shows us what he's really capable of. We all know he's great, right?

To clarify, Newton is getting killed by the emdia this year. People criticized RGIII for running too much and not going out of bounds, people criticized Vick for the same thing, and people will continue to do so if he keeps on fumbling.

I don't know what world you live, but other QBs are criticized and have been recently. Also we could go in depth on why these QBs are running, when do they do it, and why they do it but I don't have the time or patience. Quick rundown, Newton does it off designs. When a play break downs he tries to extend it. Last year, worked wonders, this year, has struggled finding the guy as teams adapted. RGIII, criticized for trying to overextend plays and taking unnecessary shots. Luck wasn't know as a scrambling QB. He closer to Big Ben where keeping plays alive is because he is so big, not because he is quick. Tebow falls inebtween both of these but his plays also seem to break down at a higher rate. Why is this, probably becuase Tebow struggled reading defenses like Newton is having this year. Read, maybe a second, then book it.

Yes Tebow is over analyzed in the media. Yes it he is over criticized, and yes he is over loved. He is over exposed and over covered but that doesn't mean there is an alternate reality where other QBs aren't criticized. You just tune it out because it doesn't go along with your preconceived notion, confirmation bias I think is the term? We all do it to some extent

A quarterback gets clocked trying a half assed quarterback slide close to the sideline. He's knocked out of the game with a concussion.

See!!! That's why he'll never be a quarterback for the NFL! You can't do that crazy "running" stuff when you're the quarterback! If he'd just hit that open guy a few seconds earlier, he wouldn't have got himself injured like that.

Wait a second... that wasn't Tebow...? Umm... Nice effort by RG3, but sometimes you just gotta get out of bounds better. He'll learn from that one...

Because he's not playing as well as he did last year, he's not playing well at all overall, and he's not winning games. NOT because he's "making plays with his legs" instead of sitting back in the pocket and going through his reads.

    Only when he got hurt.

Tebow gets criticized for running up the field on broken plays at a vastly higher rate than other young QB's in the league right now. Period. Not even close. Not "confirmation bias", just fact.
