Brady won three Championships with the likes of David Givens and Deion Branch. Are you kidding me. Brady has not won a thing with Moss or Welker! He had a old Corey Dillion at Running back??? Are you serious with this nonsense?? Sanchez had the best Running game, offensive line, Defense and special teams in football his first two seasons?
Man, why does this always happen? Craptastic QB has one decent game and some fans think "Maybe he's not so bad! Maybe it's everyone else's fault!" See one good game, get your hopes up, and then Sanchez will throw four picks and sub 50% completion the next game.
what did we see? when he had a good offensive line, the leagues best run game and a great defense he was still horrible. when he had solid wideouts he led the NFL in turnovers. sanchez has stunk from day 1. we changed our HB's, we changed our gaurds, we changed our tackle, we changed our wideoutes, we even changed our qb coach and offesnively co ordinator. through all those changes, mark has been consistently terrible and bottom 5 in the league. what inconsistency? he has been consistently bad.
freeman was good before vincent jackson and doug martin. just 2 seasons ago he had a 96 qb rating with 25 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions. he did that with a bunch of guys who dont even start in the league anymore
we spend first round picks on a center, left tackle, and tight end and a very high second ona WR. we also traded for 2 established wideouts - one a former superbowl MVP. to say we havent tried to put pieces around him is idiotic
The Colts drafted Peyton Manning, WR, WR, 1-2-3 in 1998 with Marvin Harrison and Marshall Faulk already on the roster. They drafted Edgerrin James the year after they drafted Manning. They took a draft off for defense after that and then they drafted Reggie Wayne with their 1st round pick in 2001. Note that they already had a guy at QB who was seen as developing into one of the all-time greats. They didn't give him castoffs and late picks to work with so that he could elevate their play magically somehow, they gave him a stud rookie WR 4 years in to accelerate the process. The Jets drafted a RB behind Sanchez and then they took a WR up high four drafts after they drafted Sanchez and filled with year long rentals aside from that. There's just a huge difference in the way the Jets approached the Sanchez process and the way other teams have approached developing a franchise QB. When you're taking a franchise guy up high at great cost job #1 has to be giving him all the tools to succeed. That doesn't mean making a trade in season to bring in a guy he has no experience with in season 1, then making a trade in the off-season to bring in another guy who can't play for 4 games due to a suspension, then signing 2 aging free agent vets in the off-season of season 3, etc. That's just a clusterfuck of a misunderstanding of what is likely to work. Sanchez is the result we got out of that.
For the first game since the opener. Tony .S. Called a good game. Running on third down. That has parcell's written all over it. Hope TS to keeps this up. He needs to know that he no longer is head man in charge. Just get the offense going.
Actually Sanchez put himself in the position to fail. When the defense stopped bailing him out week in and week out his complete lack of talent shone brightly.
#5 pick in the draft we don't need to be making excuses for him in his 4th year. He is who we think he is. An average at best QB with poor accuracy who can compete with a solid supporting cast. I just don't think he has it mentally to succeed. He can't come back from a bad quarter or two like some of the top QB's in the league can. He lets his emotions get the better of him too much and it gets in the way of his game. When he plays with confidence (which is rare although we did see glimpses last week against the lowly rams) he throws it like a nfl starter but most of the time he looks like a guy who only started 1 full year in college and cashed in when his stock was high.
you left out the part where the jets traded for edwards, holmes, then paid holmes a ton and paid burress as well. they certainly tried to put guys around him. and it was probably a good idea to go with vets as opposed to rookies as sanchez isnt good enough to work through a rookies struggles
This would make sense if they had kept continuity. But they let Braylon walk and replaced him with a fresh out of jail Plax who couldn't run a route outside the 20 or get separation to save his life. Right now, the longest tenured Jet receiver on the field is Kerley, a whopping 1.5 seasons in the league. We have 0 carryover in the WR position and haven't upgraded it overall in 4 years. We haven't upgraded the OL since Sanchez came into the league and we haven't upgraded the RB position either. In fact, you could argue, the WR are on par with Sanchez's rookie year, the RB are worse and the OL is worse. So you add in the talent level drops, we don't have an elite QB, the QB and team struggles. You think this team could ever win a game with Sanchez throwing 5 picks? The Falcons just did that, something the Jets don't have the talent to do None of this absolves Sanchez, he hasn't lived up to the QB we expected at #5 or an elite QB. He isn't a top 10 QB either. One of the reasons is lack of "getting it" over his 4 years so far, his lack of college experience, and well the team around him. We were the best, and Sanchez played his best in 2010-2011 when we had a very talented team. His producition slightly rised but so did his turnovers in year 3 when the OL, RB, and WR core all depleted talent wise. Now this year we are trying to play catchup but our OL is still inconsistent, but slightly better, and our WR talent is raw (Kerley and HIll) and floaters in Gates and Schillens. It is what it is. The management didn't realize they didn't have an elite QB in Sanchez. Instead of keeping on surrounding him in talent, they took talent away. THen we have this mess. It makes complete sense when you step back and look at it in football terms. The QB is an important cog in the system. Few QBs can make the sum greater than the whole of the parts they have, that's the Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers. At times, they still falter in the playoffs, but they can make it work during the regular season. The rest of the QBs in the league need help on varying levels. We didn't realize this and acted like Sanchez was in the top level when he showed 0 signs of being this QB. It made no sense what we did. We built our team in his 3rd year, banking on the fact he would make a jump and become great. THat's a terrible strategy and we see why now. If we kept steady with Braylon, Holmes, Cotch and then actually cared about our OL, not a splashy but solid offseason, we would have done better last year. MAybe it stops SAnchez from completely self destructing. Yet we went away from what brought us success in the first two years. Again, why, doesn't make sense. Again, all of this doesn't absolve Sanchez. But instead of what the RAvens are doing with Flacco, the Falcons with Matt Ryan, the Bucs with Freeman, the 49ers with Smith, etc etc we went the other way expecting Sanchez to be great. Look at Flacco, he looks as bad and at times worse than Sanchez with better weapons. Yet it rarely is mentioned or brought up becase the Ravens hide it really well. They kept on putting talent around him so they don't need to depend on him all game. The 49ers did the same thing and revamped their offense for Smith. The Bucs threw money at any offensive talent this offseason. And the Falcons have not given up on their coach/QB combo that has made the playoffs 3/4 years in the league and have...wait for it.... 0 playoff wins. They also tried to get better elsewhere instead of hoping Ryan plays like he did this year (not including last game with 5 picks, but we will forget about that since only Sanchez has 5 picks games like all those 1 times he did it) Sanchez is part of the overall problem of this team. But when we put talent around him, he wasn't part of the problem. The talent drops, Sanchez's play drops, the team's record drops. The main question should be why the did talent drop and why is there lack of depth. That all comes back the FO. It also begs the question, what exactly Cavanaugh and Schotty taught Sanchez because it looks like they pushed him to extremes which stunted him.
When the RT side of the line was a turn style yes Sanchez was in a untenable situation. They Haven't completely solidified the line ,but Sanchez has had plenty of time to make his reads. Everyone on this site has watched with their own eyes as Sanchez holds on to the ball forever and takes way too many sack. Sanchez also seems to have lost his timing . Dustin Keller was completely open for a full 3 seconds in that Seattle game and the kid failed to execute. I was the first to defend him when the line was trash , but there has to come a time where the young buck has to be held responsible and rise above his plight.
