Curtis Martin was placed on PUP so he does not count on the 53 until he comes off, if he does.

Cuts: Stacy Tutt, Dante Ridgeway, Wallace Wright, Sloan Thomas, Joe Kowalewski, Walter Rasby, Sean Ryan, Marko Cavka, Ed Blanton, Doug Nienhuis, Norm Katnick, Charles Missant, Darrell Adams, Bobby Hamilton, Brennan Schmidt, Ryan Myers, Blake Costanzo, Craig Bailey, Ray Mickens, Rashad Washington, Jamie Thompson

You forgot to include CJ Mosley. Therefore the final cut for me would be Reggie Newhouse.

Also a disproportionate amount of linemen would be on the Practice Squad including: Ed Blanton, Norm Katnick, Charles Missant

Schlegel makes the team. The guy has been calling the 2nd and 3rd string D, making plays, and stuffing lead blockers all preseason. The guy falls down once and all of a sudden he isnt fast enough? I got news for you most NFL LBs will get out run by most NFL RBs. Its not a matter of speed, its a matter of technique (that can be taught). The guy was drafted for his ability to stop the run and read offensive sets. He's done nothing to dissapoint in this area. They arent going to cut a third rounder just because he made rookie mistakes in one preseason game. If they do or PS him look for teams like Carolina and NO and maybe even New England who need inside LB help to pick him up.

I agree with this except that I think CB Drew Coleman will make the regular roster. He was too high of a pick to be on the PS. And I also think that they will carry 6 WRs with Reggie Newhouse being 6. And Mickens and Dearthe will be cut.

But for the most part I think you hit the nail on the head.

A 6th rounder doesn't exactly qualify as "too high"...Sometimes 4th rounders are cut, or put on the PS...I doubt a team would sign Coleman to their active roster, I agree with the poster who said he'd be on the PS.

^ Was just gonna say that we cant afford to carry 4 TE's anymore. Especially when none of them are involved in the passing game.

I also think Coleman is higher on the secret depth chart than Strait. Mick is kept for veteran leadership if they can afford to keep him around.

It will be interesting to see how many OL backups we take. I think Jones and Teague are the only sure bets to make it as OL-backups, and depending on whether we take 2 backup guards or two backup tackles will determine whether we take 2 of Morley, Snell, or Nienhuis or if we take Blanton and just one of those guys. If I had to bet, it'd be on two guards, since Morley can play tackle and Jones can cover both posistions.

I think Coleman (Drew) will make the team, I think the coaching staff is pretty high on him and I think theres a good chance he makes it over Mickens. I'm hoping Ray makes the team though, we can use his veteran leadership in a very young secondary.

And third, I don't think we should carry Ryan either, since he likely we don't really need to carry 4 TEs but Dearth probably deserves to make it over him because he's been the best long snapper in football over the past few years. Even though he doesn't contribute much in the passing game, Ryan probably won't contribute much either as a 3rd string TE, I mean how much action did Dreesen see last year on offense? I'd rather take a 6th WR like Newhouse, who can help us more in the passing game, over a 4th TE, but Ryan will likely make it because we traded a pick for him.

Here is my prediction for the depth chart:

    QB: Pennington, Clemens, Ramsey
    RB: Barlow, Blaylock, Houston, Washington
    FB: Askew, Martin
WR: Coles, Cotchery, McCareins, Smith, Dwight
    TE: Baker, Dreesen, Ryan, Dearth
    LT: Ferguson, Jones
    RT: Clement
    LG: Kendall, Morley
    OG: Moore, Snell
    C: Mangold, Teague
    DE: Ellis, Von Olhoffen, Hamilton
    DT: Robertson, Mosley, T. Adams
OLB: Thomas, Hobson, Johnson, Chatham, McClover
    MLB: Vilma, Barton, Kassell, Schlegel
CB: Dyson, Barrett, Miller, Strait, Coleman
    FS: Coleman, E. Smith
    SS: Rhodes, Maddox
    K: Nugent
    P: Graham

Dearth won't be cut, and shouldn't be considered a TE and the reason why we can't carry 4. He's only listed as a TE, because the NFL doesn't have a Long Snapper position.

I was mistaken, I thought he was a fourth. You are correct sometimes teams do cut 4th rounders, but those are teams (the majority of the time) that have depth and aren't rebuilding. And Coleman wasn't to stabby during the preseason, and a team that is shallower than us at CB (and there are some) would take a flier on Coleman. I could be wrong but I don't think he will be on PS.

    What are the needs?

As of now what are our needs?

    I see it as,
Offensive Line, Secondary, Linebacker, and Fullback
    I was thinking,
1-3 OL (The OLine has shown a lot of heart.)
    0-1 Secondary
    0-1 Linebackers
    0-1 Fullback (Dayne w/the Schot./Mangini program. Salary?)
    0-1 DL

    Agree... Disagree... ??
