When it was suggested that with the last preseason game ahead, there was "light at the end of the tunnel," Laveranues Coles said, "I was informed that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. The last time I checked, there is no light, so just put your head down and keep working. [The media] will probably see the light before we will, so when you see it you come tell me."

At the start of camp, Jets coach Eric Mangini told the players there was no light at the end of the tunnel.

Coles, asked if the players had asked Mangini to lighten the workload at camp this summer, said: "I don't have anything to say. I just come to work and I do what I'm told to do and I leave it like that. My opinion stays in here with me and the guys. My relationship with my teammates is what I value. Whatever they all decide together, I stick behind them 110 percent. If they decide not to say anything then we don't say anything. If they do, I'm willing, whatever they decide."
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
If mangini doesnt win a couple of "veterans" will surely stir up some trouble in the locker room possibly turnig the team against him. With a team with so many young guys we cant afford for that to happen. We all hated al groh and thought that he did a miserable job as jets coach but he was also a disciplinarian with out great credentials and we all know how that turned out. Hopefully im just reading to much into it but it seems to me that coles is suggesting that the situation could eventually explode and when it happens he'll be in support of it for 110%.......

Coles is the same guy who couldn't play for Gibbs and wanted to come back to camp Herm.

Exactly... Coles is now working as part of a team. The best thing a football player can do.

I agree. A bit of the "Dirty Dozen" mentality is fine.

There were times when I really disliked my drill instructors and tactical officers in Officer's Candidate School, but everyone in that class would have charged through brick walls for each other and for them, even though they busted our balls.

When the chips are down and this team gets up against one of those brick walls, they'll respond better for Mangini than they will for a hand-holding coach like Edwards. This is why I just don't understand Rajensen's criticism of Mangini when he claims he's "disrespecting" players and treating them "like children." Such criticism belies a true misunderstanding of what motivates men about to face unbelievably adverse conditions... situations much worse than anything the coach hands out. If you've been coached by a hand-holder, you don't have the confidence to step up to the more difficult challenges.

If memory serves, Mawae and Cherbet were among the leaders of the mutiny against Groh. Hopefully most of the troublemakers are gone now.

Sounds to me a lot like Coles is either mentally stunted or he's having his fun with the media.

The Patriot defense sure went through brick walls for Mangini in his one and only chance at full responsibility for an NFL unit, the Patriots defense.

    26th ranked defense.
    31st in pass defense
    31st in defensive takeaways.

They played smart for Mangini as well, the 5th most penalized defensive unit in the NFL last year. He turned a Romeo Crennel elite mountain gorilla of a defense into a 26th ranked mouse...... The Chiefs ranked 25th, thats how bad the Great Leader was as a leader whose men ran through brick walls for him.

Hey, whatever it takes to get the team to be a team. Did you watch the Miracle on Ice hockey movie? The team gelled because everyone on the team had something in common, they all hated the coach. I'm not saying this is always a good thing, but it isn't always bad.

Looking for the Miracle on Turf in 2006!!

Yea, right. Anyway, a little optimism around here can't hurt.

So saying he supports his teammates 110% and saying what happens within stays within makes him a pain in the ass?

Please, help me understand that twisted logic.

    Sounds blown out of proportion...

Coles is currently our only threat in this offense...

So he didn't like camp, big deal, I bet no one else liked it either. He's taking a business-like approach, I don't see the problem with that.

In Newsday awhile back Vilma was asked if he would miss camp...And he quickly said no, won't miss it at all...

Is that supposed to be ground breaking stuff? Come on man, no player likes camp.
