Could someone tell me what the full practice squad rules are in common terms. Basically, I am asking that some break the rules down into "common man" terms not the NFL rule book terms. Thanks.
you can keep 5 players on the practice squad...they can practice with the team but they do not dress for the games. Any other team in the league can pick up any player on any teams practice squad as logh as they are going to be on the active roster.
* 8 players, not 5. * They can practice, and are not ELIGIBLE to be in games * They all must be CUT first, pass waivers, and then can go on the PS * If you take someone's guy on the PS, they must be on your 53 man roster for 3 weeks. * They must all be 1st year players, or 2nd year players with minimal "active" time. * A player can only be on the PS for 2 seasons.
Let's say the Rams attempt to take a player from the Jets PS... Do the Jets have the option of promoting that player so they won't lose him?
How do waviers work in the NFL? How long does a team have to wait for a player to clear waviers? Does first year mean they havent had any time on the active roster or could they have already spent on year on the active roster. Also what does minimal active time mean? And a player can be on the PS two years in a row for the same team?
I think this answers your PS question. (a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than one previous season on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). No player may be a practice squad player for more than two seasons. You could check out all the rules in section XXXIV of the CBA at http://www.nflpa.org/CBA/CBA.aspx
The NFL made a rule change yesterday. Players can be on the practice squad for a 3rd year if and only if the team keeps it's active roster at a FULL 53 the entire season. As soon as it drops below 53, the 3rd year PS guys have to go (or be called up)
